Full Job Description

  • Must hold a relevant and recognised Early Years Teacher Qualification.

  • To work as part of the 'Busy' team contributing to the delivery of high quality edu-care services for children and their families.

  • To support the Management in the development of child-centred, exceptional provision for all children.

  • To provide support to all families and ensure the care and supervision of the children with regard to their physical, emotional and intellectual needs is of the highest priority.

  • To promote the aims of Busy Bees Children's Day Nursery and embrace the ethos under which it operates - a child-centred approach and an environment which is warm, welcoming and stimulating to all.


  • Support for our children
  • To fulfill the Special Carer responsibilities for children within the nursery (see attached sheet).

  • Foster children's self-confidence, self-esteem and independence, providing emotional security and support where appropriate

  • To ensure the overall well-being of all the children through providing play & learning opportunities.

  • To develop a motivating and stimulating environment that inspires a child's learning ability, ensuring to organise learning materials and resources; make imaginative use of resources & equipment and assist with the holistic development of children's abilities.

  • To encourage learning through experience and play.

  • To share responsibilities with fellow practitioners with observing, assessing and recording each child's progress in line with Busy Bee's observation and assessment practices.

  • To monitor, observe, reflect and evaluate children's experiences and make adaptations to planning/planned activities as required to support individual needs.

  • To be a positive role model, engaging and playing alongside the children in your care.

  • To contribute to the development of a happy, safe, secure and stimulating environment that promotes the development of confidence, independence and self-esteem for all.

  • To manage children's behaviour effectively in line with policy guidelines and developmental age expectations.

  • To interact with children indoors and out, getting down to their level and extending their learning consistently by engaging in shared thinking.

  • Offering all children equal opportunities with regard to their religious persuasion, racial origins, gender, disabilities, cultural or linguistic background by ensuring that all activities positively reflect cultural and religious differences and provide for the overall development and care of all children by sparking curiosity and building knowledge.


  • Support to the nursery rhythms of the day
  • To participate in all aspects of the children's daily rhythm including oral hygiene, feeding, nappy changing, toileting and cleaning, ensuring that all the above are enjoyable and social experiences for all children. All children should be clean and tidy with the removal or change of any dirty clothes - these can be taken to the laundry and entered in the laundry log file.

  • Ensuring to be always fully aware with regards to all allergies and all children's individual needs as stipulated in care plans.

  • To carry out regular risk assessments ensuring the health and safety of children and staff is maintained during all times, both inside and outside the nursery. Ensuring preparation, care, cleanliness and maintenance of the nursery learning environments and equipment.

  • To care for unwell or hurt children, completing accident and medication forms correctly and efficiently and ensuring to liaise with the management team in relation to these.

  • To be a role model at all times to children, families, fellow practitioners, students and those from the local community.

  • To maintain confidentiality and observe GDPR guidelines whilst maintaining an organised environment and workspace.

  • Developing effective working relationships with colleagues, working co-operatively and maintaining professionalism at all times.

  • Working with others to plan and coordinate work; sharing knowledge gained with other practitioners and parents/carers and maintaining efficient communication systems ensuring the flow of information within the service and between all partners.

  • Use of the room diary to share any key messages within the room team to ensure everybody is aware.


  • Support for parents and carers
  • To support the nurturing of positive relationships between parents, carers and children. Ensuring every avenue is explored to ensure they feel welcomed and valued within the setting.

  • Ensuring each individual need is met and every parent/carer's requests are fulfilled.

  • Supporting the settling in and transition periods closely ensuring continuity for all.

  • Confidently developing trusting, honest relationships with parents & carers by sharing information about their child's day & activities that have been on offer.

  • Promoting parent/carer involvement with nursery and partnership working to ensure a child-centred approach.

  • Fostering respectful relationships with parents/carers and keeping them updated on their child's progress or highlighting any concerns/regression that may have been observed.

  • To hold an adaptable and non-judgmental manner and to develop positive relationships with all.


  • Support for the Early Years Foundation Stage
  • To work under the EYFS and Birth to Five Matters guidelines

  • To be responsible for ensuring that the children's environment is safe and hygienic and adhere to Health and Safety requirements at all times.

  • To familiarize yourself with the use of iconnect & build confidence when using this system to observe & assess children in line with developmental milestones.

  • To have an understanding of Ofsted standards and welfare requirements and ensuring that these are adhered to at all times.

  • To report any areas of concern regarding Children's Welfare to the Nominated Safeguarding Officer, adhering to Child Protection policy & procedures at all times.


  • To ensure that all services delivered are of the highest quality by:
  • Compliance with policies of Busy Bees (Durham) Ltd but also contributing towards the development and implementation of agreed policies, procedures and good practice guidelines in all areas of work, all of which contribute to our overall ethos.

  • Contributing to the review, evaluation and development of the service offered and contributing to the development of good practice within the service.

  • Reporting any hazard, accident, damage or defect to the management team so that remedial action may be undertaken.

  • Attending training and undertaking professional development activity as identified by the supervision and appraisal process.

  • Personally keeping up to date with changes in the curriculum and developments in best practice.

  • Be flexible with regards to working and covering extra shifts at both Busy Bees and Busy Bees as required.

  • Act as an ambassador for the nursery and behave appropriately at all times when representing the company in work uniform.

  • Any other duties appropriate to the post as directed by the Management Team and to undertake additional duties as required, commensurate with the level of the job.
