Full Job Description

We are recruiting an EC&I Engineer to join our Fusion team, which has recently won several important projects and has a host of exciting new opportunities in research, engineering, operations and decommissioning. As one of the newest departments in our CMS business area, we are regularly involved in delivering on exciting bids and projects with several different fusion clients and as such the ideal candidate needs to be someone with an engineering background, who has a demonstrable track record of contributing to or leading projects effectively. This role will be based in our Birchwood, Harwell or Culham office and there may be a need for periodic visits to client sites, as projects require. The Fusion EC&I Engineer will be responsible for contributing to the delivery of fusion projects for multiple customers in the UK and internationally, moreover they will:

  • Dependent on experience contribute within or oversee project teams in the delivery of EC&I engineering activities
  • Develop and substantiate electrical systems, control systems and instrumentation as part of wider engineering solutions using relevant codes, standards, guidelines and best practices
  • Perform sizing calculations, specification and selection of EC&I equipment and systems, for example power distribution, cabling, instrumentation and control systems
  • Delivery of high quality technical documentation, for example calculations, specifications, datasheets and reports
  • Ensure that EC&I engineering solutions meet functional, performance and safety requirements including being actively involved in verification and validation activities
  • Perform SIL assessments in accordance with EN61508
  • Conduct fault analysis and reliability assessments using recognised techniques, for example FMEA, FTA, HAZID and HAZOP
  • Degree in relevant engineering discipline or demonstrable equivalent underpinning knowledge and understanding with relevant industry experience
  • Ideally working towards or attained chartered engineer status with an appropriate professional institution
  • Awareness of software based control systems, for example PLCs, FPGAs, SCADA, HMIs, DCSs, DPSs and SMART components

    Health and safety focus with experience of relevant EC&I regulations, standards, guidelines and best practices
  • Proactive and driven approach to work, taking ownership of the tasks required to be completed under their remit
  • Good communication and relationship building skills
  • Competent technical report writing skills: clearly and concisely reporting findings
  • Comfortable working under time and cost constraints
