Full Job Description

  • Lead a programme of analysis to inform the Strategy, Policy, Digital and Technology Directorate (SPDT), impacting on strategic direction, ministerial decisions and informing key stakeholders.

  • Define policy questions, and the options for analysis that will have most impact and manage their development with appropriate analytical assurance.

  • Manage and plan a portfolio of work which ranges from Impact Assessments / De Minimis Assessments (DMAs); to advisory roles, or lighter-touch, creative analysis.

  • Mentor and coach colleagues to develop economist skills to future proof the skillset within DVSA


  • This post will be leading the first analyst team at DVSA, and will be supported by and link into the wider analytical community at DfT.

    This role has a significant economics component, shaping high quality analysis for policy. The role holder will have considerable space to lead, shape and create an analytical programme which enables the policy team to gain a deeper understanding of the emerging issues, to make evidence-based decisions.

    As an Economic Advisor, you will play a key role in coordinating evidence across analytical disciplines internally and externally, to ensure that the policy receives advice based on the best multi-disciplinary knowledge. Good prioritisation skills to identify what activities can add the most value and impact, will be key.

    This role will develop close links with analytical and policy professionals within DVSA, DfT and the cross-government community. The role holder will be a participant within the Driver Policy senior leadership team, where they will have the opportunity to provide robust and influential economic advice.
