Full Job Description

World Nuclear Association, the international organisation representing the global nuclear industry, is seeking to recruit an Economist, Energy Markets who will be responsible for delivering the Association's activities in the key areas of economics and financing of nuclear energy. Reporting to the Senior Programme Lead - Climate, the role will involve conducting economic analysis of nuclear energy in the context of overall energy system design and planning. The role will be a key contributor to analysis of energy policy, particularly in the areas of regulation of electricity markets and financing of nuclear energy.,

  • Conduct research and analysis to provide insights into the factors, and policy issues, that impact and influence investment in, and financing of, nuclear programmes.
  • Develop a programme of activities, focused on the areas of economics, energy markets and financing of nuclear energy, that contribute to the Association's strategy to promote nuclear.
  • Act as Staff Director for the Association's ELF (Economics, Law & Finance) Working Group; provide direction and technical support, and project manage the delivery of the Group's programme of works.
  • Provide support to other Association areas of strategic importance, providing insight and analysis to help inform decisions and contribute to ongoing energy system policy development.
  • Establish and develop a network of key relationships with nuclear industry, and external stakeholders, including within the electricity market and investment communities.
  • Write and disseminate industry position papers, policy briefs and reports, thought pieces and blogs.
  • Develop and maintain an excellent understanding of fundamental drivers of global energy markets, and the impact of economic, regulatory, and policy developments.
  • Represent World Nuclear Association in related selected external events; contribute to the nuclear debate and provide thought leadership on area of expertise.

    Masters degree in economics or equivalent, or Bachelors degree and several years of relevant experience in the field
  • Strong analytical background in economics
  • Knowledge of the electricity market & experience in energy market analysis
  • Experience in economic analysis of energy policy, infrastructure financing and investment
  • Minimum 5 years' experience, ideally gained within the energy or major infrastructure industrial sector.

  • Knowledge of nuclear energy industry
  • Experience in engagement with financial institutions on investment on infrastructure and energy projects., Superior research & analytical skills, excelling at data-driven research
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate economic concepts and quantitative data to non-technical audiences
  • Credibility & integrity to command the respect of a broad range of stakeholders
  • Ability to influence & persuade
  • Politically and culturally aware
  • Highly self-motivated and organised with the ability to work on your own initiative
  • Highly PC literate & fully conversant with MS Office
