Full Job Description

We are seeking to recruit an education fellow (middle grade) to this exciting post in the Paediatric Emergency Department at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.

The Paediatric Emergency Department (PED) at Chelsea and Westminster sees over 41,000 children a year making it one of the largest centres in the region. It is recognised for subspecialty Paediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) training by the RCPCH and, as the regional centre of paediatric surgery and burns, sees a complex case mix.

The post provides an opportunity to develop both paediatric emergency clinical and educational skills and is suitable for middle grade doctors from either a paediatric or an emergency medicine background. It is ideal both for trainees looking for out of programme experience (there is potential for the clinical component to be recognised as out of programme training) as well as those not currently in a training programme., This job provides an exciting and valuable opportunity to develop as a medical educator, whilst receiving ample support through your supervisor and the experienced PED consultant body. The duties of this role include, but are not limited to, design of the paediatric emergency departmental teaching programme, delivering regular simulation sessions for the PED and general paediatric teams, and involvement in undergraduate teaching and mentoring. There is scope to design and deliver innovative new simulation/teaching courses of your choice and this is warmly welcomed and supported.

Previous post holders have been successful in publishing/presenting their work both nationally and internationally. You will also have the valuable opportunity to attend relevant medical education and simulation facilitation courses allowing continued professional development in the medical education setting. The balance between educational and clinical duties is well proportioned allowing for active progression of both clinical and educational skills.

The post contributes to the middle grade rota with, at the present time, no night shifts. The Education Fellow contributes fully to the clinical out of hours commitment, while daytime hours are split equally between education activities and clinical work. This equates to on average 1- 2 days per week of educational time (30% FTE).
