Two exciting secondment opportunities has arisen for a suitably qualified practitioner to join our dynamic NELFT Safeguarding Team.
- Specialist Safeguarding Children Advisor - Redbridge and Waltham Forest
- Specialist Safeguarding Adults Advisor - Havering The post holder will support the Named Professional and Head of Safeguarding for Adults and Children in delivering on the aims and objections set out within the NELFT Safeguarding Strategy. The role is a collaborative one, working with individuals and groups across professional and organisational boundaries providing support and guidance to teams within NELFT. The role will also require attendance of internal NELFT meetings, multiagency partnership meetings and Safeguarding Adult Board (SAB) sub-group meeting. We will welcome applicants with a nursing, allied health professional or social worker qualification. The post is mainly based within operational service in North East London and at least twice a week in Suite One Phoenix House in Basildon to cover the safeguarding duty helpline. The applicant may be required to work across other areas of the NELFT footprint to ensure appropriate cover arrangements are in place. The applicant will also support the Named Professional and Operational Teams in participating in Learning Reviews, Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews, Safeguarding Adult Reviews and Domestic Homicide Reviews. The secondment will conclude in March 2025. Main duties of the job
- Deliver the safeguarding work plan.
- Be responsible for ensuring that NELFT meets its statutory safeguarding requirements.
- Support services within their operational bases to fulfil their obligations commensurate with their roles.
- Provide advice via the duty safeguarding helpline.
- Delivering safeguarding training to NELFT services and Level 3 safeguarding training as part of the mandatory training offer.
- Provide Safeguarding Supervision to operational service.
- Support internal and external case escalations.
- Support the review of new and existing safeguarding policies and procedures.
- Leading on and / or overseeing internal and external audits.
- Reviewing and analysis of safeguarding data.
- Completing internal, mandatory and statutory reports to the agreed deadlines.
- Attendance at priority internal, external safeguarding meetings
- Deputising for the Named Professional at internal and external meetings
- Work alongside our NELFT safeguarding children's colleagues and promoting 'Think Family'.
- Supporting our external partners and operational colleagues to effectively coordinate and communicate all safeguarding concerns.
- Cross-covering in staff absence during sickness and annual leave.
- Support staff in the preparation of written reports both in relation to formal Child Protection procedures and for legal proceedings., Adhere to and implement Local and National policies for Safeguarding PAN London procedures, & Child Protection / Safeguarding Children and adults within professional practice. Providing advice to all NELFT practitioners via Safeguarding Duty Desk. via telephone calls, Inphase Incident reports or email enquiries. Supporting cover arrangements for the Safeguarding Duty Desk with oversight and support from senior colleague. Maintain a presence in operational work bases and phoenix house duty service. Work collaboratively between the safeguarding adults and childrens practitioners to embed and promote the Think Family' approach. Assist fellow Specialist Safeguarding Advisors and Named Professionals involved in the Child Protection processes, attending Child Protection conferences, strategy meetings, safeguarding adults section 42 enquiries, and other interagency / professional meetings when required. Provide safeguarding children supervision for a defined group of staff as agreed, in line with NELFT's Safeguarding Supervision Policy. Support the delivery of the annual Safeguarding Children / Adult Audit Programme. Provide support to staff involved in the Safeguarding Adults Process or Child Protection processes, attending Child Protection conferences, strategy meetings and other interagency / professional meetings as the need arises Support new or inexperienced staff with writing effective referrals to social care, escalations. For children's - child protection reports. Support staff in the development of chronologies during the safeguarding process for both adults and childrens. This will include supporting the Named Professional and Operational Services in completing IMR reports. Support the dissemination of Saferguarding Learning Reviews / SCIE recommendations to inform and improve practice and influence policy / procedures in line with Local safeguarding Children and Adults Partnership Procedures. Assist in the future classroom and current virtual delivery of NELFT Safeguarding Children / Adult Training. Assist in ensuring procedures are distributed, understood and implemented by professionals, in the light of new local and national policy.,
- Identify personal training and educational requirements in conjunction with the Safeguarding Named Professionals, Specialist Safeguarding Children / Adults Advisors and the Workforce Development Unit and attend relevant mandatory and other training pertinent to role.
- Participate in Annual Appraisals.
- To participate in the planning, delivery and evaluation of safeguarding training, both single agency and multi-agency
- Undertake the role of mentor, preceptor and clinical support as required to newly appointed staff.
- Assist in the induction of new staff of other disciplines.
- To identify the training needs of staff through safeguarding children / adult's supervision and support the development and commissioning of training to meet the identified trends.
Registered Nurse, Social Worker or Allied Health Professional - Current registration with NMC or HCPC
- Teaching / Mentoring Qualification / working towards
- Evidence of on going Safeguarding Children level 3 training Desirable criteria
- Safeguarding Children Supervisor
- Attended a Leadership Programme
- Safeguarding training additional training Experience Essential criteria
- Minimum of two years' experience post registration
- Experience of interagency work
- Involved in Audit

- Expert knowledge of current practice relating to safeguarding children / child protection and think family
- Experience in undertaking complex investigations and critical analysis. Report on findings and outcomes, prepare action plan
- Effectively coordinate and communicate Safeguarding children activity to promote the welfare of children and young people. This will include ensuring coordination of safeguarding children supervision Employer certification / accreditation badges Applicant requirements You must have appropriate UK professional registration. This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff). High Cost Area Supplement This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary.
