Full Job Description

The Engagement and Attendance Team at Rochdale Borough Council are looking to recruit a highly skilled and experienced practitioner for the role of an Education Welfare Officer.

About you

The role will involve working closely with schools, other agencies, children & young people and their families, and will have a strong emphasis on relational working practice to reduce barriers and improve school attendance whilst ensuring strong safeguarding practice at all times.

The role will involve managing a caseload and will also provide a range of support including direct work with schools, training, support plans and formal and legal actions.

Candidates must be excellent communicators and have good organisational skills. Knowledge of management information systems, good case recording and experience of preparing reports, assessments and plans is required. Candidates should also have experience of effective working with children & young people, families, schools and multi-agencies with the ability to form good relationships.

Candidates will be expected to demonstrate specialist knowledge of working together to improve school attendance and other relevant legislation and will work closely with colleagues in neighbourhoods. Full training and a supportive induction will be available.

The role will also involve close working relationships with other functions of the Engagement and Attendance Team including the Elective Home Education Team, Enforcement Team, Children Missing Education Team and teacher advisors supporting healthy schools and school improvement. Candidates would be expected to work borough wide and closely with their allocated neighbourhood.
