Full Job Description
The Education Welfare Service makes sure the Council meets its statutory duties around school attendance. The Education Welfare Service works closely with schools though guidance and training to enable them to manage their attendance and provide opportunities for all pupils to attend and learn.
There has been an increased demand for Education Welfare Service and Child licensing services. An exciting opportunity has arisen for temporary part-time Education Welfare Officer to meet this demand and is a critical to supporting the service meet its statutory duties.
The post holder will establish good working relationships with a small group of schools to support them to work closely with their pupils and families to improve attendance. The post holder has to quality assure and process all the legal requests from schools including Fixed Penalty Notices and the issuing of School Attendance Orders. ; investigate Children Missing in Education enquiries; gather, check and present education information on behalf of schools at MARAC (Multi Agency Risk Assessment Conference), follow up actions and report to the family safety unit; prepare and facilitate half termly workshops to school staff and complete the Statutory Register Inspections in schools.
The role is pivotal to helping schools keep children safe and ensure that vulnerable groups access their full entitlement to their education. This role is also part of the school improvement strategy to support schools to be Ofsted ready.
