Are you passionate about democracy and skilled in electoral processes? If so this is an exciting opportunity for you to build your career in Elections and Electoral Registration. We have two vacancies to join a small team who are at the heart of ensuring fair and transparent elections and are responsible for compiling the electoral register in the City. You'll have the opportunity to develop your skills and get involved in projects such as implementing boundary reviews and responding to new legislative requirements such as voter ID, online postal vote applications and votes for life. This area of work is responding to a period of significant change in the way elections are run in the UK.

What is the job role?

You will provide operational assistance to the Head of Electoral Services to deliver an efficient electoral service (including elections and electoral registration) adhering to all relevant legislation and is open, transparent and accessible to the public and other stakeholders.

You will deal with the public on a daily basis in a way that promotes the section and its services in accordance with the Council's corporate policies. You will also contribute to the development of a culture of innovation and service excellence including the introduction of the requirements of the Elections Act 2022.

An experienced administrator to provide highly competent administrative support to the service covering all aspects of its work including maintaining the register of electors, absent votes list and monthly alterations lists, organising and supporting data mining activity, meeting all statutory deadlines of the election timetable and many other aspects of our work including some outreach work to encourage electoral registration and participation.

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

  • Excellent communication skills in conveying electoral requirements, updates, and addressing issues clearly and effectively.

  • A meticulous eye for attention to detail will help maintain the integrity of the electoral register and ensure that every detail is correct to deliver high quality outcomes.

  • A passion for democratic processes will drive you to excel in administering and delivering elections that are fair and transparent.

  • You will be able to work to tight deadlines, manage changing and conflicting demands whilst producing accurate work.

  • You will have excellent customer service skills and will deal with customers by telephone, email and face-to-face

  • You will have experience of working in a team and be able to demonstrate your ability to work without supervision

  • The post holder must be flexible and prepared to work additional hours, including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays leading up to elections and during peak canvass periods.

  • Strong proficiency with a variety of IT systems and applications.
