Full Job Description

Main Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Electrical design and development engineering including:
  • + Creation of SLD's (single line diagrams). + KLD's (Key line diagrams). + Protection scheme AC & DC schematics. + Wiring diagrams & interconnections, multicore schedules etc. + Creation of HV switchboard general arrangement drawings + Work in collaboration with production engineering to create BOM's and full component specifications. + Maintain project documentation and control sheets associated with the project. + Creation of purchase specifications for equipment, including cortec codes for protection relays. + General mechanical layout of protection cabinets/panels. + Switchboard general arrangement drawings.
  • Give technical support to the sales area in collaboration with Technical Project Managers to analyse technical specification received from customers and define the protection and control solution at the quotation stage.
  • Define standard solutions in collaboration with Production Area in order to improve the efficiency and lead time of the projects.
  • Prepare and maintain standard drawings according to customer specifications, (DNO's, etc.).
  • Give technical advice and assistance within the organization on electrical matters.
  • Clarify and answer technical queries received from customers, attending technical meetings together with the sales managers if necessary.
  • Give technical support to the production technicians during the manufacturing and FAT.
  • Give technical support to the service technicians during the installation and commissioning activities.

    A Formal engineering qualification would be mandatory.
  • Our design engineers currently undertake the creation of their own schemes on AUTOCAD LT and proficiency on this or similar platforms would be required. A Knowledge of EPLAN or similar electrical software tools would be of interest. A significant proportion of the work may be in the practical draughting of schemes.
  • Electrical distribution network experience, the majority of our work is at 33kV but we do undertake some 11kV. A knowledge of the UK expectations, standards and presentation of electrical schematics within the MV/HV industry is essential.
  • Protection and control systems design experience according to DNO standards in the UK. We undertake the design of many bespoke schemes incorporating industry standard functionality (e.g. OC/EF, DOC/DEF, G99, LD, BZ, BEF, TCS etc).
  • Good knowledge of protection relays would be an advantage and experience creating settings and PSL files would be viewed favorably.
  • As part of our substation design a knowledge of LV electrical installations and 18th edition wiring regulations would be useful but not essential.
  • Awareness of relevant ENA standards would be advantageous.
  • A flexible approach. We sometimes have to assist with and cover colleagues' duties. We work as a team to achieve our company goals.
  • The candidate may be required to occasionally visit site and possibly our factories in Spain.
