Full Job Description

Hampshire and Wiltshire area are responsible for installing, operating and maintaining electrical infrastructure for a growing number of high profile clients within the Defence sector., A vacancy currently exists for an Electrician to work with the Project Team in Hampshire and Wiltshire to work as part of a team carrying out the full range electrical works including installation, commissioning and testing of substations, EV chargers, feeder pillars and street lighting infrastructure. In addition to Inspection and maintenance responsibilities for UK Power Networks Services operational assets.

Dimensions:

No direct reports or financial budget responsibilities.

Although based at the sites above and principally working in the Hampshire and Wiltshire area the candidate will be expected to develop their skills and authorisations to be able to work on any future projects within UKPN Services.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Inspection & Diagnostic testing of all plant and apparatus associated with the Distribution/Transmission network.

  • Fault location and repair of minor plant defects associated with the Distribution / Transmission network.

  • Ensure that all staff for which they are responsible work to the Distribution Safety Rules and to demonstrate a strong safety culture.

  • Carry out Installations, Testing and Inspections in compliance with the IET Wiring Regulations BS7671.

  • Use of appropriate Hand Held IT equipment.

  • Immediate supervision of Maintenance/Construction staff within their working party.

  • To be prepared to assist other sections as and when required e.g. organisational changes, system emergencies etc. as determined by your skills, knowledge and experience.


  • Complete additional works to provide the requirements of the ESQC Regulations.

  • Work with the Highway lighting team installing and connecting street lighting infrastructure and services., Be computer literate to undertake data input onto the hand held devices.

  • Note: Any necessary training required will be provided to the suitable candidate.

  • Understand and implement UK Power Network's procedures.

  • Restoration of supply and completion of works promptly following safety requirements.

  • Use materials and audit check tools to ensure materials ordered match the costs of the job.

  • Tools and equipment are within test dates and calibrated.

  • Jobs are signed off by completion of task instructions and are undertaken safely to quality, cost and time and completed to the correct specification and to guaranteed service standards.

  • Feedback from colleagues, customers and other organisations and implementation of work activity demonstrate that procedures are understood and undertaken by the post holder.

  • Health & Safety Responsibilities
    Managers and supervisors carry both legal and company responsibilities for ensuring the health and safety of their employees, those under their control and those who might be affected by the work undertaken, i.e. public, visitors and employees of other organisations. This includes briefing individuals working for them and ensuring there is the necessary understanding, competence and application of requirements to work safely and without harming the environment.

    Employees need to be aware that for some craft and operational roles that work at height, or use fall arrest devices, there is an upper weight limit of 116Kg due to maximum safe working load of the safety equipment that is used.

  • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent.

  • Qualified to City and Guilds NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.

  • Knowledge of electrical distribution an advantage.

  • Willingness to learn on the job.

  • An understanding of the Electricity at Work Act.

  • Trained in First Aid.

  • Awareness of the policies relating to Health & Safety.

  • Full UK driving licence required.

  • Integrates well in a team and actively promotes good team work.

  • Applicants must be able to achieve full Ministry of Defence Security Clearance.

  • Ability to work and integrate as part of a small team committed to the successful delivery of a high profile project.

  • Able to work under pressure.

  • A good understanding of Health & Safety and Environmental Legislation.
