Full Job Description

Great Britain's electricity system is undergoing an ambitious, exciting and vital transformation. Together with industry, we are creating a cleaner, greener system, one that protects the planet and serves generations to come.

As a Connection Operations Team we guide customers on their journey to connect to the energy system, making it as easy as possible to navigate the route. We strive to deliver excellence by seeking, listening, and acting on feedback to drive continuous improvements to our ways of working and build trusted relationships with all.

As an Electricity Compliance Manager you will lead and manage the connections compliance processes to deliver and maintain compliant customer connections against the contractual framework, technical appreciation and industry codes. Provide all necessary assurance of compliance to the business. Facilitate timely new customer connections to the required standards and in a manner that exceeds our customers' expectations.

This role can be based in Warwick or Wokingham and we continue to offer hybrid working from office and home. We are open to full time and part time applicants, as well as flexible working arrangements.,

  • Effectively co-ordinate cross-functional project teams and external customers and stakeholders, including Transmission Owners, Distribution Owners and Developers, to deliver and maintain customer connection projects in a timely manner and in line with the contractual framework and industry codes (Grid Code, STC, BSC).

  • Build and develop collaborative and trusted partnerships across a portfolio of highly complex projects to deliver value and ensure future compliance is achieved, all technical requirements are met and stability of the system is maintained.

  • Lead the delivery of complex projects to continuously improve customer satisfaction, anticipating challenges and developing new solutions to drive change, ensuring all customers queries are resolved swiftly and in full.

  • Pro-actively identify any associated connection compliance risks, prioritise and drive the development of solutions to mitigate these risks for the overall benefit of customers, stakeholders, and the business.

  • Pro-actively identify, prioritise and drive the continual improvement of internal and external processes through implementation of change initiatives.

  • Accurately record and effectively manage data in all appropriate systems, ensuring compliance with licence, industry codes and GDPR.

  • Deliver seamless and efficient services both internally and externally for our customers and stakeholders.

What we do isn't just important - it's essential. That's why we look to recruit experts in their field. In this case, we're looking for someone who has:

  • Extensive experience of effectively dealing with customers leading to dispute resolution.

  • Extensive experience in simultaneously managing multiple projects, all to a high standard.

  • Expert knowledge of the Grid Code, CUSC, STC and associated governance structures and regulatory frameworks.

  • Expert knowledge of the electricity transmission system, equipment and the users network design.

  • Proven ability to understand the technical and commercial requirements of the codes and how to apply them to projects.

  • Proven ability to deliver change, identify and mitigate complex risks, both internally and externally.

  • Proven ability to understand complex issues and offer users viable solutions, considering impact on the electricity system.

  • Proven ability to explain complex contractual issues to customers in simple terms.

  • Strong links established across ESO to ensure any interdependencies on projects is understood and explained to the end user.

At National Grid Electricity System Operator (ESO), we're aiming to operate a zero-carbon electricity system for Great Britain by 2025. This means using wind, solar and hydropower - without relying on any carbon-based generators to balance the grid.

  • Becoming the National Energy System Operator
In 2024, the ESO will transition to becoming the National Energy System Operator, or NESO for short. Previously denoted as the Future System Operator (or FSO), the new National Energy System Operator will be the independent body responsible for planning Great Britain's electricity and gas networks and operating the electricity system.

The ESO, including all of its existing roles, will be at the heart of the new National Energy System Operator. As NESO, we will build on our existing roles, capabilities, and ways of working significantly to create an organisation the energy system and its users' need. Our new capabilities will enable us to look across vectors, including electricity, natural gas and hydrogen, and crucially consider the trade-offs between them.

The organisation will be set up as a public corporation with its own Board of independent directors, with complete operational independence from government, the regulator and any and all commercial interest. As the ESO are today, NESO will be licenced and regulated by Ofgem through price control agreements and obligated to identify optimal solutions to system operations and planning in the most sustainable, affordable and secure way for all.

The time to deliver is now. As part of our team, you won't just be touching the lives of almost everyone in Great Britain - you'll be shaping the way we use and consume energy for generations to come.

A competitive salary between £45000-£64000 p.a. dependent on experience and capability.
As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on company performance, 26 days annual leave as standard and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.

You will also have access to a comprehensive benefits package tailored to support your well-being and professional success. From a competitive salary to flexible work arrangements, we promote your work-life balance. Enjoy fit for purpose wellbeing and lifestyle offerings, ongoing skill development aligned to our Purpose and Values, and be part of a supportive community that values your individuality and where you can belong.
