Detailed job description and main responsibilities
You are subject to the requirements of the Data Protection Act and must maintain strict confidentially in respect of patient's and staff's records.
This is a 24 hour service working over 7 days covering a variety of shifts i.e. nights, long days, weekends, including bank holidays. It is expected the post holder will be aware of this and will work the range of shifts on a rota agreed 6 weeks in advance (as a minimum).
Booking in of patients attending Accident & Emergency onto the hospital computer system.
Liaising with ambulance staff and booking in patients on arrival.
Receive and deal with telephone enquiries as required.
Cancel or change appointments according to clinic rules and procedures.
Reception duties on out-patient clinics, ensuring all computer details are maintained correctly on the Symphony/Camis system and that all relevant details are entered/updated correctly.
Pre-clinic preparation, responsible for checking that necessary paperwork is available for designated clinics.
Ordering and booking in of hospital notes as required by the Department.
Notifying Overseas Department of any visitors attending the Emergency Department and taking relevant information.
Scanning Emergency Department attendance notes onto the Symphony system.
Admitting patients transferred to other areas of the hospital onto Camis.
Weekly filing in Medical Records of ED Specialist notes.
Admitting and discharging patients on Camis for the Emergency observation area.
Photocopying as required and all other routine office duties.
Deal with all enquiries from members of the public.
Liaise with all levels of staff.
Be aware of the Data Protection Act, Fire, Health & Safety and that all Trust Policies are adhered to.
Attend mandatory courses.
Any other duties which may be required.
To provide cross cover for Urgent Care.
Liaise with all multidisciplinary levels across all directorates. Have the ability to interpret and convey information accurately and concisely.
To participate in any in-house training and awareness sessions to keep up to date with the transit time target.

We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated individuals with a positive attitude to join and grow within our exciting Emergency Department Reception team at Northampton General Hospital. If you love working with people on a daily basis then this is the job for you!, You must have relevant years of experience working in an admin and clerical role and experience of dealing with the general public and members of staff.
You must have the minimum or equivalent of GCSE Grade C or above in English and an IT qualification is desirable. A working knowledge of the hospital systems Camis/Symphony would be desirable although training and support will be offered to all successful candidates.
You will possess excellent written & verbal communication skills, the ability to work as a team member and on your own initiative and be able to prioritise your workload without compromising attention to detail.
