We have an exciting opportunity within Network Rail High Speed to join the HR team as an Employee Relations Business Partner. You will support and guide managers on a range of complex employee relations matters, offering impartial and informed advice. You will also play a pivotal role in the rollout of an upgraded ‘HR Direct’ system, ensuring line managers are fully informed and supported in utilising the new platform. This role will also offer you the opportunity to build line management capability, through the delivery of upskilling workshops, briefings, and coaching. To be truly successful in role, you must be confident offering impartial and balanced advice to a range of colleagues. Attention to detail is required, to navigate successfully through a complex industrial relations landscape. You will have the ability to see the ‘bigger picture’, by understanding our people data and developing targeted initiatives to improve underperforming business areas. Finally, as a true specialist, you will regularly update your knowledge on employment law and policy change, so that you can be truly trusted business partner.

  • A proven track record in a previous HR Advisory role, in particular experience of dealing with numerous and highly complex Employee Relations cases, up to and including Tribunal stage across several organisation functions within a large complex organisation.
  • A strong commercial approach and understanding of business needs.
  • Experience of development and delivery of manager up-skilling both individually and through workshops/formal development interventions.
  • Up to date Employment Law knowledge and practical application of legislation.
  • Passion to deliver excellent customer service and professional HR support to the business.
  • Capability to establish professional credibility quickly.
  • Experience of coaching and influencing line managers and senior business leaders.
  • Strong time management, organisation and prioritisation skills and the ability to work under pressure and to deadlines.
  • Although it isn’t essential, it would be helpful if you have experience working in a unionised environment – and if you have experience of working in a remote capacity, independently and on own initiative – even better!
