Full Job Description

Are you an effective communicator with the ability to liaise with stakeholders of varying seniority levels?

Would you like the opportunity to represent the DVLA as an enforcer of legal compliance?

Do you have experience within an enforcement or audit environment?

If so, we would love to hear from you!

As an Enforcement Compliance Officer, you will play a pivotal role in representing the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) at Magistrates' Court(s) as a Prosecutor, for vehicle tax and insurance related offences. We will look to you to engage with customers to educate and encourage compliance for these offences (by quality checking and building case files). Your key points of contact could include Magistrates, legal advisors, local authorities, other enforcement agencies as well as the police.

Your presence in court will be fundamental and so your attendance there will be expected, as a large part of the role. Court locations will be located in areas surrounding Leeds (Barnsley, Kirklees and Newcastle Upon Tyne.) When not in court, there will be the flexibility for you to work from home and occasionally from other DVLA offices.

Once you are established in post (as a Prosecutor - for vehicle tax and insurance related offences) there will be opportunity to develop and gain experience as a compliance officer for other areas of the business (number plates). Within this secondary role, there will be scope to work closely with number plate suppliers and stakeholders (including HMCTS, the police) to help raise compliance awareness.

If successful, you will receive extensive training prior to your first date in court.

This role involves occasional travel and overnight stays within the UK, however full notice will be provided in advance. We will also support you in becoming a safer driver by enrolling you on a Defensive Driving course.

This can be a challenging yet rewarding role, ensuring road safety and that regulations are followed.

Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include but will not be limited to:

  • Case management for vehicle enforcement cases at Prosecution stage.

  • Checking facts and documents on DVLA systems to support making a decision on whether to proceed in court.

  • Communicating with customers via correspondence on the phone and in person.

  • Educating customers to ensure future compliance.

  • Preparing cases for court, ensuring legislation and time scales are observed and maintained throughout Prosecution.

  • Presenting cases on behalf of the Agency in Magistrates' Court.

  • Working with other enforcement agencies such as the Police and Trading Standards when requested to assist with operations.
