  • Hybrid working within this role enables a balance of 50 per cent of time split between the office and home over a 4-week period. Hybrid working arrangements can evolve subject to business requirements.
  • As part of TfL Engineering's Commercial & Network Development business area the Places for London Architecture, Design & Engineering Team is accountable for providing technical input and technical authority for engineering and architectural works across the Places for London estate. This scope includes working with in-house project teams, the supply chain and joint venture partners to deliver thriving places and a sustainable income for reinvestment into the transport network. This role is a core position involved in engineering performance management of the Places for London, Architecture, Design and Engineering team. It is a hybrid role with aspects of multi-disciplinary Engineering, Business Engineering, and commercial/financial administration support. It involves providing advice and guidance to a range of internal and external stakeholders, developing internal processes and procedures, and providing a trusted source of data and information and reporting. The role will require a proactive approach to the development of engineering, financial and performance reporting processes and systems interfacing with multiple business areas, along with engaging with stakeholders to maintain and improve team performance. The role will typically involve:
  • Managing engineering cost recovery
  • + Preparation of Statement of Costs for all Places Engineering jobs + Keeping register of SAP job numbers and supporting new job number creation + Raising purchase orders, keeping track of run rates and bad debts + Disseminating key financial information to engineers and supporting work with Places Architecture, Design & Engineering clients + Developing, preparing, and evaluating Places Engineering business unit reports, investigating any concerning trends in either financial or safety related reporting.
  • Engineering resource forecasting
  • + Working with the Places Engineering leads, the TfL resourcing team and engineering capability pool leads to ensure that there is clear visibility of resource requirements and tangible plans for fulfilling demand. + Working with Engineering and Places for London finance teams to ensure that finance handshakes are completed. + Managing change control of resource requirements + Monitoring demand against assignments and actual time bookings and resolving conflicts.
  • Competence Management
  • + Maintaining technical competence and accreditation registers for engineers assigned to the team. + Working with individuals to ensure that competence and accreditation are kept up to date. + Working with Heads of Discipline to ensure that requisite training and assessment is carried out to maintain accreditations. + Developing and coordinating a training programme
  • Technical governance
  • + Management of technical processes and procedures and coordination with engineering standards and Places for London management system to ensure that technical documents are controlled. + Management of first line technical assurance processes + Manage the audit of compliance with technical requirements.
  • Team support.
  • + Develop and custodian of team SharePoint site and content. + Ensuring that all team members are aware of updates to processes and procedures and that these are followed. + Ensuring that new team members receive inductions and appropriate measures are put in place for management of team members. + Occasional cover and support to team members in developing strategies and project deliverables, The successful candidate will join the Commercial and Network Development engineering delivery area with an assignment to the Places for London, Architecture, Design and Engineering team. The team is currently based at Victoria Station House at Victoria Station in central London, and this will be the main work location, however the successful candidate will be expected to work across various TfL buildings and attend Places for London's office on a regular basis in line with TfL corporate guidance and policy. The post holder will play an important role in team coordination with numerous other teams within Places for London, across the wider TfL family and with external stakeholders. It is critical that the post holder is visible and available. The role will offer the opportunity to grow an extensive network of contacts across TfL and the wider development industry. There will also be scope to develop skills and a career path in specific engineering disciplines and gain a broad understanding of the political, commercial, economic, and social issues influencing project decision making.   • Capable organiser who is highly methodical and has the ability to develop and implement systems and processes to control activities and create business improvements.

  • Knowledge
  • Essential: Working knowledge of SAP Ariba (or similar) system and in particular SAP reporting and all aspects of purchase orders.
  • Essential: Excel Advanced user adept at running and developing macros
  • Competent in the use of Power BI, SharePoint, and other Microsoft packages
  • Knowledge of multidisciplinary engineering functions in a project environment
  • Awareness of relevant Health & Safety legislation
  • Knowledge and development of competence management processes
  • Knowledge of engineering estimating, budgeting, and change management processes
  • Experience
  • Experience of building relationships with and influencing a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience in developing business reporting and data analysis systems and processes
