Full Job Description

We are currently seeking an Engineering Technician - Mechanical Planner to support the United States Air Force, 422 Civil
Engineer Squadron located at Royal Air Force (RAF) Croughton, United Kingdom. The primary purpose of this position is
to serve as a civil engineering technician within the Requirements and Optimization section of the 422nd Civil Engineer
Operations Flight. The incumbent will evaluate and recommend for approval clients' requests for new construction,
renovation, and improvements of real property facilities including utility systems by using and applying technical
mechanical engineering knowledge in developing, preparing, monitoring, and maintaining programming documents,
including major project design reviews, and planning charts for the accomplishment of operations and maintenance (O&M)
manual review, development and review of Base Standards and other duties as assigned by the Requirements and
Optimization Chief. Will coordinate projects with engineers in a variety of disciplines and/or with architects. Will work with
organizational managers, budget personnel, and engineering/architectural authorities to develop and gain approval for
proposed facility programs/projects.,

    General and practical knowledge of engineering concepts, methods, principles, practices, and techniques;

  • familiarity with engineering disciplines (mechanical, electrical, structural, utilities, etc).
  • Knowledge of program planning and budgeting cycles, financial control, and budget systems; work

  • classifications and the regulatory and statutory restrictions on the expenditures of appropriated and nonappropriated
    funds; automated data processing system capabilities and economic usage to effectively
    accomplish assigned functions.
  • Knowledge of standard contracting regulations, practices, and procedures.

  • Knowledge of analytical and diagnostic methods, procedures, and principles and surveying methods,

  • equipment, and techniques of measurements to identify project requirements.
  • Ability to plan and record site/facility surveys and inspections.





  • Ability to research, analyze, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, codes of practice and procedures in a

  • variety of situations and recommend timely and economical solutions.,
  • Employee must possess an HND/HNC/BTEC, City and Guilds, NVQ or equivalent technical qualification in

  • building and civil engineering/mechanical and electrical engineering and/or construction management, as
    well as sound experience of building construction and maintenance project management procedures, gained
    by at least three year's work experience in the trade. A Bachelor's Degree is not required.
  • The work may require the employee to drive a motor vehicle. Must possess an appropriate and valid CAT B

  • driver's license.
  • The position requires familiarity with a variety of software packages in use by 422 CES; some training may

  • be necessary in order to obtain the required proficiency.
  • The position requires the knowledge of numerous regulations and codes of work. Attendance at various

  • courses may be required to keep up to date with new practices, materials and safety legislation.
  • The position requires the use of a handheld two-way radio or alternative method of on-site communication.

  • May be required to wear personal protective equipment when performing on-site inspections.

  • Incumbent must hold, or be capable of obtaining, an electrical skilled person's certificate within the probation

  • period.
  • Must be GAS SAFE registered and trained to correct ACOPS standards in order to competently plan work for

  • projects involving gas fueled installations.
