Full Job Description

We have hugely exciting challenges ahead at AWE as we invest in our next generation deterrent infrastructure. The Engineering Safety Organisation (ESO) consists of a central group of 25 engineers who oversee and appoint around 500 people across the organisation. We are looking to recruit a Mechanical Team Leader and Electrical Team Leader to manage the central ESO team. The ESO primary activities include:

  • Identifying regulatory compliance requirements,
  • identifying significant hazards and risks,
  • defining the processes and procedures,
  • undertaking competency assessments and appointments,
  • ensuring the effectiveness of and continuously improving safety processes and standards,
  • providing discipline specific safety advice to facilitate safe operations.

    The hiring manager has 2 vacancies available - 1 for Mechanical and 1 for Electrical. To be successful in either role you must be a highly proactive and adaptable engineering leader, with excellent people management and communication skills. As well as supporting and managing your team day to day, you will be transforming the way we work by embracing new tools and technologies, simplifying our ways of working and establishing best practice learning and development for the future. As a people leader, you will need to ensure that we attract, develop, and retain the workforce to meet the needs of our vital UK nuclear security mission., The ability to articulate technical complexities and have very good communication skills.
  • Previous experience of delivering engineering capability across a manufacturing and/or research environment comprising a range of infrastructure and associated manufacturing and/or research plant and equipment.
  • A reasonable understanding and ability to apply applicable legislation and standards relevant to safety within engineering (e.g. HSAWA, CDM)

    Package: £65,000 -£85,000 (depending on your suitability, qualifications, and level of experience), 9-day working fortnight - meaning you get every other Friday off work, in addition to 270 hours of annual leave.
