The Role

Hutchison Ports (UK) – Harwich International Port is one of the UK’s leading multi-purpose freight and passenger ports, to support our continued growth and development we are looking to recruit an Engineering Supervisor.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will be leading and managing engineering personnel and contractors to ensure that we maximise asset availability and performance whilst delivering engineering solutions that meet the business and operational demand.


Key Requirements

  • Direct day-to-day hands-on supervision of engineering personnel and contractors in the maintenance, repair and refurbishment of plant and machinery.
  • Supervising and allocating planned and reactive maintenance activities to ensure that they are carried efficiently and safely with minimal disruption to operations.
  • Inspection of maintenance, repair, and refurbishment activities to ensure they are carried out within agreed timescales and to the required standard.
  • Support the Engineering Manager with organising resource levels against operational demands.
  • Concise and accurate use of the engineering management system for allocation of work, maintenance logs, procurement of goods, services, and stock.
  • Contractor management including obtaining quotations, scheduling, and allocating planned and reactive maintenance work. Review risk assessments and method statements, and issue permits to work.
  • Review risk assessment assessments and method statements to ensure that all planned and reactive maintenance activities are covered.
  • Concise and accurate shift reporting, including end of shift, accident, near miss and damage reporting.
  • Work with the Support Services team to ensure that correct component parts are sourced, and correct stock levels are maintained. Researching and ordering special item parts.
  • Work with Training to manage skill gaps within the team to ensure that skill levels and licenses are maintained. Support the team with progression through the Skills Development Matrix.
  • Support and mentor the engineering apprentice scheme.

 

Who are we looking for?

 ·         Appropriate technical qualification in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering.

·         Minimum 5-10 years experience in a heavy industrial engineering environment.

·         Ability to cope with fast changing work priorities on several concurrent work activities is required which can be pressurised and demanding.

·         IOSH or equivalent managing safely qualification (or obtain within 6 months of appointment).

·         Excellent communicator, someone who is comfortable and confident to operate at all levels within the business.

·         Strong administration and organisation skills including the use of IT systems.

·         Full UK driving licence.

·         Flexibility to work on a shift pattern that will include early, lates, weekends and on-call.
