Job Title:        English Teacher

Salary:            £31,650.00 - £42,200.00 per annum dependent on experience

Location:        Jubilee School, Waterlooville

Hours:            40 hours a week; Monday to Friday 8.30am - 4.30pm

Contract:        Permanent; Term time only

Start date:      February 2025

Jubilee School is a co-educational day school, which helps educate and support pupils aged between 5 – 16 who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges and additional complex behaviours. In addition to taking day students from the local area, Jubilee School is linked with four care homes and is located in Waterlooville, just outside of Portsmouth.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced English Teacher to join our team at Jubilee School. The successful candidate will have experience of planning and teaching English. In particular they will be able to effectively deliver English, ensuring pupils make good progress from their starting points.

We are looking for an exemplary classroom practitioner who has high expectations of self and others and is passionate about encouraging all pupils to achieve success. We want someone with excellent classroom management skills, who teaches with an enthusiastic and nurturing approach and has high expectations of learning. You will have successful experience of working with pupils with challenging behaviour either as a result of ASD or SEMH needs. 

Ideally, you would be able to contribute to the wider curriculum of the school through sports, arts, music, drama, and other enrichment activities. In return, you will have the opportunity to work with a fantastic team in a welcoming environment.

Areas of Responsibilities & Key Tasks:

Teaching & Learning

  • Be responsible for the learning and the achievement of all pupils in the class(es) ensuring equality of opportunity for all;
  • Planning and preparing schemes of work and lesson plans;
  • Create a purposeful learning environment;
  • Teaching, according to individual educational needs, the pupils assigned to him/her, including the setting and marking of work to be carried out by the pupils in school and elsewhere;
  • Teach engaging and motivating lessons informed by well-grounded expectations of learners and designed to raise levels of attainment;
  • Know how to make effective personalised provision/effectively provide differentiated tasks for those they teach;
  • Have high expectations of young people including a commitment to ensuring that they can achieve their full educational potential and to establishing fair, respectful, trusting, supportive and constructive relationships with them;
  • Know how to use skills in literacy, numeracy and ICT to support their teaching and wider professional activities;
  • Use assessment as part of their teaching to diagnose learners’ needs, set realistic and challenging targets for improvement, and plan future teaching.
