Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced ophthalmic nurse who is dynamic, energetic, and motivated. The post holder will be working in a multidisciplinary team for patients in the Medical Retina Service at Moorfields Eye Hospital. The main goal is to provide comprehensive, ongoing care and support for patients with Medical Retina conditions. Medical Retina Subspecialty is evolving and constantly developing due to emerging new therapies giving rise to multiples opportunities for Ophthalmic Nurses. The successful candidate will be expected to line manage staff, work autonomously administering Intravitreal injections, interpreting of OCT scans, OCT-Angio and Fundus wide field images and decide the treatment options for patients attending the diagnostic hub., Practice autonomously with a high level of accountability in the direct delivery of high-quality care, making critical clinical decisions based on advanced clinical skills assessment. To participate and be involved in administering Intravitreal injections at least 3-4 sessions per week. Practice autonomously to assess, interpreting OCT scans, OCT-Angio and Fundus Wide field images and decide the treatment options for patients attending the diagnostic hub. Works in partnership with individuals, families and carers, using a range of assessment methods as appropriate (e.g. history-taking, holistic assessment, identifying risk factors, mental health assessments, requesting, undertaking and/or interpreting diagnostic tests and conducting health needs assessments and organise the appropriate treatment). Under the supervision of the Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP), Nurse Consultant and medical team, work towards advanced ophthalmic practice competencies and non-medical prescribing as appropriate. Collaborate with the multi-professional team to establish diagnosis and monitor disease progression in patients with ophthalmic conditions. Challenge practice so that the best and most appropriate treatment is given to the patient, maintaining, and monitoring high standards of care, recognising, and responding proactively to patients' changing clinical needs.

  • PROBATIONARY PERIOD This post will be subject to a probationary period of 6 months. During the probationary period, your suitability for continued employment will be assessed and provided a satisfactory standard is achieved and maintained, your employment will be confirmed. The probationary period may be extended or your employment terminated either during or at the end of probation, in line with the trust Probationary Policy. For the duration of the probation period, the notice period will be in line with contractual obligations on either side.
