Full Job Description

Are you an experienced surgical practitioner looking for an exciting new challenge? Do you have a passion for gastrointestinal (GI) surgery and want to make a key difference in patient care? We are seeking a Band 7 Enhanced Practitioner to join our dynamic GI surgical department on a maternity cover basis. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with expertise in surgical care to play a pivotal role in ensuring the continuity and excellence of our services., As a Band 7 Enhanced Practitioner, you will be a crucial part of our multidisciplinary team, responsible for delivering expert care across the GI Wards,SDEC and Outpatients. You will:

  • Act as a clinical leader, overseeing the management of GI surgical patients.
  • Provide high-quality, patient-centred care for both elective and emergency surgical cases.
  • Work closely with consultants, Training Doctors , Nurses, and Allied Health Professionals to develop care plans and pathways for optimal patient outcomes.
  • Lead in the assessment, planning, and delivery of care to GI patients within a fast-paced environment.
  • Support the department's Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) unit, ensuring seamless and timely management of surgical patients.
  • Offer specialist advice to staff and patients in the outpatient setting, contributing to multidisciplinary care plans.

    Registered professional working at an enhanced level are expected to be able to manage discrete activities in complex, challenging and changing situations and environments. They should also be confident to seek further guidance when they reach the boundaries of their competence. Utilise the four pillars of practice (Clinical Practice, Education, Research and Leadership) to support the delivery of the Trust objectives through behaviours which demonstrate the Trust Values. To note, this level is largely clinically focused and is NOT underpinned by an MSc in Advanced Practice, though candidates with an MSc in Advanced Practice are still able to work at this level.
  • This role will involve autonomous, independent clinical practice, as well as leadership of the enhanced practitioners working in the department.
