Full Job Description

We have a unique opportunity for an experienced nurse or Clinical Research Practitioner to take on the role of Clinical Research Nurse/Clinical Research Practitioner within the RNENT & EDH portfolio of ENT, hearing and balance research studies.

The post holder will be expected to have or develop skills and knowledge relating to the conduct of clinical research according to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and work closely with clinical and research personnel across the RNENT & EDH. They will be responsible for identifying and recruiting participants for ENT, hearing and balance studies and for performing study related assessments and investigations such as, taking blood, biological sample collection, monitoring of adverse reactions, compliance with research protocols and data entry., The Clinical Research Nurse/Clinical Research Practitioner will contribute to the successful delivery of the ENT, hearing and balance research study portfolio at the RNENT & EDH and other NHS Trusts within the NIHR Clinical Research Network North Thames through:

  • Assisting or leading (as appropriate) patient recruitment and day to day management/ organisation of studies, to include: patient identification, screening and recruitment, data collection and database management, biological sample collection, conducting relevant assessments and investigations, monitoring of adverse reactions and reporting instances in compliance with research protocols.

  • Providing nursing care (for research nurses only) and perform study-specific assessments and investigations without direct supervision in accordance with the study specific protocol and principles of GCP;

  • Maintaining research study documentation;

  • Communicating effectively with study participants, research study teams, Sponsors, UCLH JRO and other NHS Trust R&D departments and regulatory authorities.

  • Developing own knowledge and expertise within the research field as relevant to the role


  • Measures of success are study performance according to the principles of GCP and other relevant clinical research legislation and adhering to research study protocols, recruitment of study participants to time and target, patient follow-up and data completeness.
