Full Job Description

As Environment and Sustainability Manager, you will play a key role in advancing the University's sustainability agenda, working closely with the Head of Compliance and Sustainability as part of a dedicated team. This position is responsible for shaping and implementing the University's sustainability strategy and roadmap to net zero carbon, ensuring that these efforts are embedded across all campuses and buildings.

You will ensure that all activities are fully compliant with environmental regulations and will be accountable for maintaining and improving the University's ISO14001 accreditation, a key benchmark in environmental management.

In addition to operational responsibilities, you will focus on raising the University's profile through its sustainability initiatives, leveraging Higher Education-based league tables and fostering active engagement from students, staff, and the wider community.

As the primary point of contact for sustainability advice and guidance, you will also coordinate green activities across the university, driving collaboration and promoting environmental stewardship.

This is a fixed term role until 31/10/2025

The ideal candidate for this role will have extensive experience in managing change within an organisation, with a strong ability to influence and promote sustainability initiatives through various methods, including sustainability engagement programmes. You will possess a proven track record in maintaining an Environmental Management System (EMS) to the ISO 14001 standard, including the effective management of documentation and compliance.

Key to this role is experience in monitoring and reporting on environmental data, including metrics such as waste, energy usage, and carbon emissions, ensuring transparent and accurate reporting. You will also have experience in working towards an organisation's net zero ambitions, with a solid understanding of carbon emission scopes and experience in calculating carbon footprints to support sustainable goals.

Additionally, you will hold a degree or equivalent qualification in an environmental or sustainability-related field, bringing both academic and practical expertise to the role.

This position offers the opportunity to drive impactful environmental change while contributing to the organization's sustainability strategy and objectives.
