Hear From the Hiring Manager: "This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly skilled team providing environmental protection advice to site as well as a range of challenging decommissioning projects. We are looking for a confident and capable person who can work at pace and deliver high quality, technical environmental work. The role of an Environmental Advisor requires the individual to take a strong lead directly with the decommissioning activities and project teams, and to instruct and lead on environmental standards, expectations and requirements to maintain good practices and compliance with all relevant regulations. As such, you will be expected to have a high level of professionalism, integrity and drive, be highly motivated, proactive and be able to work independently. You will need to ensure adherence to standards and expectations through good communication and working with site teams, providing timely advice, influence and ultimately holding groups to account on expected standards. The successful candidate will fulfil the required behavioural attributes and competencies. They will have experience in both a busy dynamic working environment and in advising projects." Key Deliverables:

  • Provide authoritative advice, support and guidance to the Site and Project teams to ensure compliance with company Standards, Environmental Permits, and relevant regulations.
  • Monitor performance and provide advice as necessary to maintain and improve environmental standards.
  • Ensuring compliance with our Environmental Permit through ongoing oversight, assessment, review, reporting and regulatory engagement on our radiological discharges. This includes data handling and management.
  • Support the Site and Projects in identifying, developing and documenting Best Available Techniques (BAT).
  • Ensure the production and maintenance of any required permits, reports, consents and other regulatory requirements, as required.
  • Implement identified good practice and promote and deploy across Site.
  • Contribute to the effective development of, and deliver, training within own area of specialism.
  • Support the Site and Project implementation of environmental compliance and environmental management arrangements.
  • Developing and driving environmental understanding within teams, ensuring good environmental awareness and practices across the site.
  • Ensuring the ongoing effectiveness of the environmental management system.

    Educated to at least NQF level 6 / NVQ level 6, preferably at degree level in an environmental science or other related subject (essential).
  • Experienced environmental practitioner (essential)
  • A high standard of knowledge, experience and application of relevant environmental legislation (essential).
  • Excellent attention to detail, particularly when handling large data sets (essential)
  • Member of a relevant professional institute (essential).
  • Lead Auditor for ISO 14001 (desirable).
  • Holding or working towards certification as Radioactive Waste Advisor (desirable).
  • You will be joining a team of environmental specialists, led by the Head of Environment, and form part of the wider Environment, Health, Safety, Security & Quality (EHSS&Q) function on the Site. No previous nuclear experience is necessary as training can be provided. NRS is committed to continual development of its staff and so development opportunities exist should the individual want progression.

    Nuclear Restoration Services Limited (NRS) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA). NRS is responsible for decommissioning first generation nuclear power stations Berkeley, Bradwell, Chapelcross, Dungeness A, Hinkley Point A, Hunterston A, Oldbury, Sizewell A, Trawsfynydd and Wylfa, and research sites Harwell and Winfrith. NRS is also responsible for electricity generation at hydroelectric plant Maentwrog.   • The equivalent of 25 days (185 hours per year) annual leave plus Public Holidays (59.2 hours per year). This increases by 2 days (14.8 hours per year) annual leave after two full calendar years of service (as at 5th January in the leave year) , and an additional 3 days (22.2 hours per year) annual leave after five full calendar years of service (as at 5th January in the leave year). You also have the option to buy or sell the equivalent of 5 days (37 hours) annual leave each year (available in specific windows for the following holiday year). For the purpose of assessing an employee's annual leave entitlement, a day means seven and two fifths (7.4) hours. A pro rata entitlement will apply for part time workers.
