Full Job Description
We are looking for an environmental chemistry technician to provide technical support for the successful operation of the Defra/EA Toxic Organic Pollutants Network (TOMPs). TOMPs is a long-established air monitoring network that is responsible for eight monitoring sites across the UK. Specifically, the role requires experience with trace organic analysis and involves the preparation of sampling materials and modules for the network. This involves using Soxhlet extraction in a clean laboratory, and maintenance of associated glassware and equipment. There will also be a limited requirement to undertake some basic sample processing (extract clean-up) to prepare sub-samples for further analysis and quantification.
The role will also require liaison with local site operators that look after most of the samplers to ensure that they have the necessary sampling equipment and consumables.
