We have a Centre of Excellence and Innovation in Witney for the manufacture of test strips and biosensors used by patients and healthcare professionals for the day-to-day management of diabetes. The Operations group is the largest team in the Witney facility, producing high volumes of test strips and biosensors each year to the stringent quality standards demanded by European and US authorities and our internal quality systems. We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Technologist III to join our manufacturing and R&D facility in Witney, West Oxfordshire leading the Environmental Monitoring Group. Working in a small and friendly team, your role will ensure the cleanroom monitoring activities are completed to ensure that sterility assurance level is maintained in the Witney manufacturing facility.

The Environmental Monitoring Group perform regular microbial monitoring of the cleanrooms, product and utilities to ensure compliance to ISO 8 cleanroom standards. The team review and investigate any trends, champion cleanroom best practices, and assess any changes to cleaning and gowning.

You will also be given additional responsibility for continuous improvement projects and will be required to provide expertise to colleagues in engineering, production and quality.

The EMG lead is responsible for

  • Overall oversight of routine monitoring activities

  • Acting as point of contact for EMG for queries and investigations

  • Establishing team priorities, goals and strategy

  • Delegating and supporting improvement projects

  • Encouraging the development of team members

  • Support audit activities relating to environmental monitoring

  • Ensure microbiological environmental monitoring complies with Divisional Guidelines and regulatory requirements


  • To be successful, you should ideally have a Bachelor's degree in a scientific subject or the equivalent experience in an ISO cleanroom environment. Those with a strong secondary level education and industry experience in an ISO cleanroom environment are encouraged to apply. You must also have excellent attention to detail skills, a logical and methodical approach to problem solving, the ability to prioritise and the flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances or new demands. A lot of your work will involve cross-functional teams, so you'll also need the communication and inter-personal skills to be able to build relationships with colleagues in various departments across the business.

    You will be expected to spend time in the manufacturing facility, so will need to have, or be able to develop, good hands-on practical skills. Good IT skills including Excel and PowerPoint are also required for this role.
