Join us in supporting environmental change! We are excited to announce the CIWEM Environmental and Recycling Lead opening at Thames Water. As part of our Corporate Sustainability and Environmental mission, this role will ensure that our waste-to-product strategy aligns with our Corporate Social Responsibility and environmental commitments.
The CIWEM Environmental and Recycling Lead will oversee equipment repurposing for local community organizations and developing countries and establish the most eco-friendly methods of disposing of waste materials. This is a critical role in supporting our commitment to environmental change.
Additionally, the CIWEM Environmental and Recycling Lead will manage our internal 'freecycle' operation called "Green Tag," which enables our operational teams to reuse and recycle items across the business.

What you'll be doing as CIWEM Environmental and Recycling Lead
This role strongly emphasises coordinated stakeholder engagement and support across the whole business, which will mean you.
- Deliver operational and financial efficiencies
- Ensure that all waste-to-product strategies comply with environmental laws and regulations.
- Add significant value to our environmental continuous improvement - your ideas will help shape service delivery and maximise asset and resource usage
- Ensure that Thames Water meets its Duty of Care obligations regarding all waste produced from our operations processes
- Support the Contract Management Team, ensuring waste management companies provide Thames Water with a compliant service
- Provide project management and look to develop and implement a range of waste-to-product strategies in line with environmental law & regulation
- Work with our contract management and strategic sourcing teams to understand and identify waste products that can be disposed of more economically
- Identify ways to reduce waste generation and find ways to reuse and recycle what would otherwise be thrown away
- Ensure health and safety requirements are met within the company and legal frameworks
Relevant environmental and/or materials recycling or repurposing experience within an operational industry such as water, construction, waste, recycling, or another utility organisation
- Membership of the Chartered Institute of Waste Management. (CIWM)
- Technically experienced with a good understanding of Waste Management and Environmental Legislation
- Familiar with relevant codes of practice and guidance documents applicable to the waste management industry
- Able to undertake waste classification, duty of care audits and site inspections
- Knowledge of current issues in the recycling market
- Comfortable working closely and productively with internal and external stakeholders, suppliers, and Environmental Agencies
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and confidence in the delivery of presentations
- Driver's licence for the UK and access to a vehicle for business use, Disability Confident

Competitive salary between £53,000 and £60,000 per annum
- 26 days holiday per year increasing to 30 with the length of service. (Plus bank holidays)
