Full Job Description

INTERNAL JOB POSTING ONLY - External candidates will not be considered. Surrey Fire and Rescue Service, We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Environment and Rural Affairs and Quality Assurance Manager to oversee the delivery of the Service's outdoor prevention objectives and quality assurance for all Safe and Well visits. The post reports directly to the SaFE Prevention Team Manager for line management and to the SaFE Team Manager for rural affairs activities. You will also have managerial responsibility for the Environment and Rural Affairs Team.,

  • Collaborate with SCC, SFRS personnel, external agencies, and landowners to deliver community safety programmes focusing on outdoor safety, including wildfire prevention, water safety, and community preparedness.
  • Work with Station Commanders to identify and manage foreseeable risks and assist in developing operational response plans.
  • Represent SFRS at community events, stakeholder meetings, and public engagements.
  • Act as the key contact for sharing intelligence with stakeholders such as land managers, the Environment Agency, and Surrey Police.
  • Monitor weather patterns and provide early warnings and operational guidance to service personnel.
  • Quality Assurance
  • Ensure the quality assurance of Safe and Well visits across the service, including prevention teams, response personnel, and fire volunteers.
  • Deliver training and support to Station Commanders to enable them to conduct quality assurance effectively.
  • Identify and address poor practices through training, guidance, and coaching.
  • Analyse trends in Safe and Well visit data to improve processes and documentation.
  • Liaise with line managers to resolve issues and ensure consistency in prevention activity.
  • Operational and Community Support
  • Maintain operational competence and ride a minimum of one operational shift per month.
  • Support rural communities by ensuring resilience and preparedness for extreme events.
  • Assist with wildfire training and provide advisory support during wildfire incidents., Service Development: Manage community safety initiatives to reduce risks related to wildfires, water safety, and rural events.
  • Planning & Organising: Develop and implement prevention projects, coordinating with various teams to maximise impact.
  • Analysis & Reporting: Provide trend analysis and data-driven insights to support prevention objectives.
  • Finance/Resource Management: Oversee team attendance, payroll, and resource recommendations.
  • People Management: Support, coach, and manage the Environment and Rural Affairs Team effectively., We uphold the values of the organisation and promote ethical principles:

  • Substantive Crew Commander who has passed the Watch Commander boarding process, or Substantive Watch Commander.
  • Knowledge of land management, wildfire prevention, and rural affairs.
  • Familiarity with the Care Act 2014 and Wildlife and Countryside Act.
  • Competence with Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel, Word).
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
  • Line management and leadership experience.
