Full Job Description

We take pride in fostering a dynamic and inclusive environment, where the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our team members drive fresh thinking and innovation. We understand that success means different things to different people. There's no single definition - it's about individuality. That's why we give you the freedom to pursue a career that's unique to you. Because success is personal.

Training, development, and support for you

Over the course of this 12-month programme, you'll have the opportunity to immerse yourself in hands-on learning, working on real-world challenges that directly impact the energy industry. Most of your learning will be on the job, supported by your mentor and the teams around you. You'll have a chance to apply your academic training to genuine industry problems while completing modules that contribute towards your degree.

You'll gain in-depth experience within an Environmental Safety Group department at a nuclear power plant. You'll learn about systems vital to the smooth operation of Environmental Safety, including safety protocols, technical governance, quality assurance, analysis, communication strategies, and IT systems. Additionally, you'll have the opportunity to see how other departments within the power station function, expanding your understanding of the broader industry.

During your placement, you could be involved in projects improving waste management processes for non-radioactive waste, performing routine monitoring and preparing regulatory reports for sea water usage and oil accountancy, collecting and managing data for UK Emissions trading scheme compliance and calibration and quality control of liquid scintillation counters and gamma spectrometers.

We're here to support you throughout the process and you'll find helpful tips and advice here: https://www.edfenergy.com/careers/early-careers

We are looking for candidates who are on track to achieve, or have already achieved, a 2:2 undergraduate or postgraduate degree in Maths, Physics, Science or Engineering. You should possess strong technical and analytical skills, along with a genuine desire to learn and develop new capabilities. A questioning attitude, good teamwork, and effective communication skills are also essential qualities.

At EDF UK success is personal. We don't define it, you do. Join our Environmental Safety Group Industrial Placement and you'll achieve your career goals in the way you want to. All while contributing to our mission to help Britain achieve Net Zero.

"Electricity is such a vital component in everyone's lives. It powers schools, businesses and hospitals, so I knew that if I did my placement within EDF then I would have a really large impact on society, and that made my placement a lot more fulfilling." Priyanka, Science & Engineering Industrial Placement
