Do you want to make a difference to the lives of people living with Cancer? We are looking for an enthusiastic, flexible and self motivated person to join our team as the Equality Diversity and Inclusion Lead for Cancer. You will be key at promoting the importance of health inequalities throughout Cancer services and deliver against the three phases for action in the BaNES, Swindon & Wiltshire (BSW) Inequalities Strategy: raising awareness; healthcare inequality and the Core20PLUS5; and the social, economic and environmental factors that affect health. This role will work closely with Clinical Nurse Specialists, Allied Health Professionals working in Cancer, and Cancer Support Workers at Salisbury Hospital, as well as partnership organisations such as Wiltshire County Council and other agencies, including the voluntary sector who support people affected by health inequalities. The role works across the hospital and community so access to a car is essential. You will be well supported by a friendly and forward thinking team., This is a fixed term post whose focus will be on the following areas:

  • To work alongside partner organisations supporting community initiatives aimed at earlier diagnosis of Cancer.
  • To raise awareness and provide training on Cancer related topics to staff members working with inclusion groups and other populations affected by health inequalities.
  • To attend relevant workshops/support groups/seminars where those affected persons visit
  • To review current accessibility of cancer services for people affected by health inequalities, make recommendations and implement actions.
  • To provide education to SFT staff in Cancer Services and site specific teams around health inequalities, reasonable adjustments and support them to improve accessibility to care and treatment.
  • To collect data and undertake subsequent analysis identifying themes and areas needing improvement.
  • To advocate for the needs for those affected by health inequalities and enable effective communication between the community and SFT., We continue to encourage and support our staff to participate in the seasonal respiratory vaccination programme in order to protect themselves, colleagues and their patients.
  • GETTING TO WORK We offer parking on site at Salisbury District Hospital, a daily charge applies. We encourage our staff to utilise other green methods of getting to work such as cycling or walking where possible, and our Trust is well connected through the bus services to the city centre and other areas.     The successful applicant will need to have strong organisation skills and be able to adapt to a changing environment. They need experience of working with people affected by health inequalities. Support is provided and there will be a robust induction programme. This is a fixed term post for 23 months.
