Full Job Description

You'll join the team to support our lead analysts in the Energy sector, with a particular focus on Utilities. You'll spend time learning the role of a Research Analyst and getting to know the ins and outs of the market, looking at things with a longer term, thematic mindset and really getting to understand the markets with a multi-year/multi-decade view. You'll see this as a fantastic learning opportunity to train as a Research Analyst and with a view to starting to cover your own companies further down the line. You'll spend a lot of time looking at highly complex data-sets and financial models, working to keep them updated and accurate so you need to have a good foundation in Excel and accountancy already.
What will you do?

  • Support the team in conducting and producing written research on a range of companies within the Energy and Utilities landscape, in the form of quarterly updates, initiation reports and thematic pieces;

  • Participation in the daily morning meeting;

  • Attend company presentations and meetings with company management;

  • Conduct detailed research of company accounts and financial reports, as well as utilising other sources such as expert networks and industry consultants to help draft independent and thought-provoking research notes;

  • Assist with the organisation of investor meetings, as well as Berenberg roadshows and conferences relevant to your sector;

  • Extensive financial modelling - create new models, as well as maintain and update existing valuation models.

    2-4 years previous experience in a role that demonstrates significant commercial awareness and data analysis skills such as consulting, professional services, accounting, corporate finance;

  • OR Recent ACA Qualification (ideally September 2024 qualified) with 1st time passes at one of the Big 4 accounting firms;

  • Interest in the economics of energy markets and the ecological and energy transition;

  • Passion for equities, excitement to make a switch and build a career within Equity Research;

  • Long term career perspective, a focus on gaining a breadth of knowledge of the sector, and thematic perspective on the oil, energy and power markets, before building up towards their own company coverage;

  • Excellent Excel skills, with knowledge of VBA and programming, as well as in depth understanding of company balance sheets and financial models;

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, confidence in presenting your opinions and ideas;

  • Degree level education or equivalent experience required.
