Full Job Description

Arcus are recruiting an Estimator to join its national projects team. The role will produce competitive and accurate pricing for new and existing business opportunities, and directly support the growth strategy and needs of the business. The primary function of the role with be to lead and develop, while supporting all aspects of the bid process relating to the pricing of new opportunities and tenders for all Business Development opportunities. Other responsibilities include;

  • Positively support and contribute to wider business strategy and activities
  • Manage relationships amongst stakeholders by building confidence and trust with clear professional communications and assured expectation management.
  • Provide leadership & management at tender stage and personal management and planning of a project tendering activities assigned to them.
  • Communicate with all stakeholders including directors, project owners, designers and contractors.
  • Work closely with the Projects Bid Writer and wider operations and commercial projects team to ensure high quality tender returns in a timely manner
  • Arrange enquiry documents for supply chain to ensure tenders are compliant, accurate and competitive.
  • Responsibility for accurate drawing take offs, BoQ's and prelims estimation.
  • Negotiation and analysis of subcontractor works packages
  • Manage tender clarifications, queries and document control to ensure tender returns are fully complaint.
  • Analyse tender information and organise quotations from external suppliers/sub-contractors and resolve any queries that arise including technical and commercial compliance.
  • To liaise closely with clients, sub-contractors and in-house teams, building and maintaining good working relationships.
  • Review and understanding of tender documents highlighting key aspects, requirements and areas of risk together with mitigation.
  • Produce a fully detailed quotation / cost plans / tender returns / budgets in accordance with clients requirements are in line with Company Procedures and P&L expectations.
  • Provide value engineering opportunities while maintaining quality and scope.
  • Eliminate commercial risks in tenders during contract negotiations.
  • Work closely with supply chains to identify appropriate options to provide competitive and compliant tenders.
  • Conduct bid / scope review meetings
  • Prepare clear and concise hand over pack from estimating to operational & commercial teams for secured works.
  • Attend site visits & meetings where required.
  • Provide regular tender analysis and lessons learnt data
  • Deliver tendering activities in line with the Arcus governance and control structure
  • Deliver tendering activities in line with all relevant Arcus FM policies, quality and health and safety management systems

    The successful candidate should have previous experience working in either estimating or quantity surveying, with specific understanding of bid and tender process in projects environment, ideally with experience in multi trade internal / external refurbishment and alterations projects up to c £3m
  • Other requirements include;
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel ability.
  • Strong analytical and organisational skills.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Comfortable working with complex and incomplete data.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with regard to building relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal and the ability to communicate with colleagues at all levels.
  • Ability to multi task and work independently on several tenders at any given time.
  • Experience of working in a construction projects company/division
  • Good technical knowledge of the building fabric and M&E elements of projects
  • Good commercial and contractual awareness (inc JCT and NEC forms of contract)
  • Good understanding of CDM Regs and the role, duties and obligations of the principal contractor

  • Salary: £45,000 - £53,000 per annum dependent on experience.
