Full Job Description

Events Officer - fixed term contract/secondment for an initial 9 months with the potential to be made permanent, We are looking to appoint an Events Officer responsible for supporting and delivering the full events programme including outdoor, civic and virtual events on time, with quality outcomes and within agreed budgets. You will assist in the full life cycle of events including planning from the initial brief, marketing, delivery and evaluation of events and application of learning to improve on future events.

We're looking for a positive, energetic and experienced Events Officer to join our friendly team. With demonstrable knowledge and experience of planning, managing and delivering quality events and projects. You will have exceptional organisational, communication, IT and customer care skills. The ideal candidate will be a resourceful problem solver who is able to manage a complex and busy events programme. You will be proactive with excellent communication, negotiation, consultation and influencing skills tailored to meet the needs of a wide range of audiences and stakeholders. In addition, you will be flexible as you will be required to work evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays.

Salary: Band: 8 £33,945 - £36,647 p.a. (pro-rata) (£13,578 - £14,658 for 14.8 hours)

14.8 hours: per week - working hours and days to be discussed at interview.

There will be a requirement for evening, weekend and Bank Holiday working as a core part of the role to meet the needs of the service (as and when required, although mostly during the summer months this also includes key events throughout the year).

Your New Role

The Events and Lord Mayor's Team is a fun, small and industrious group of people who manage, deliver and support all aspects of the allocated events within the Portsmouth City events portfolio. This includes regional, national and international level i.e. an annual programme of free public events such as Armed Forces Day, the Southsea Food Festival, the city's annual fireworks display, the International Kite Festival, series of car boot sales and Live at the Bandstand. In addition, the team is involved in one off events that take place in the city, which recently included events to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day and 40th anniversary of the Falklands conflict.
