Full Job Description

The Sussex Police Evidential Property Team, are looking for an enthusiastic and highly organised individual to join their team and undertake the role of Evidential Property Courier.

In this post you will be responsible for ensuring that evidential property seized by Sussex Police is safely and securely transported between Sussex Police sites and the Sussex Evidential Property department. You will be required to maintain vigorous audit trails for all items being handled and updating the evidential property database. This position is full time, operating Monday - Friday. Remote working is not available for this role.

Key Responsibilities:

To be responsible for the collection, distribution and delivery of seized property around Sussex Police & occasionally Surrey Police sites. In accordance with a prearranged schedule.

Using the evidential property database & systems to identify property ready for collection and delivery.

Complete a physical check of evidential property for collection and delivery against the pick list to ascertain that the correct items are being moved.

Use the equipment provided such as scanners, laptops and smartphones to record and upload the movements of the property items on the property database.

To have ownership over the security, professional appearance and functionality of the temporary evidential property stores located within a variety of Sussex Police sites.

Use the equipment provided for safe handling and transportation of property items in accordance with the Risks Assessments and Safe Operating Procedures pertaining to the specific items, i.e. firearms, drugs, cash, etc.

Maintain a working knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and compliance to support the movement of property including hazardous and valuable items (such as firearms, drugs, forensic exhibits, sensitive and potentially distressing property) across the forces, and that all PPE is worn as required and is in a usable state.

To drive police vehicles in accordance with police standards and policies. To take responsibility of the departments vehicle, ensuring it is is serviced, cleaned and maintained.

Maintain the security and safety of all items whilst travelling at all times. Such as: restricting the movement of items in the vehicle whilst in transit, locking and alarming the vehicles when unattended in a police premises.

Confident when working alone, be self-motivated, enthusiastic, well-organised and have excellent communication skills. With the confidence to effectively communicate to individuals at all levels of seniority.

The ability to work accurately and pay attention to details, with a logical method of working. Good organisational skills and the ability to work to deadlines with a flexible approach to working.

Experience of working in a confidential environment.

The ability to use initiative and work with minimum supervision, in addition to working alongside a team aiming to achieve the same goals.

To manage colleague expectations with a commitment to service delivery.

To have good computer skills, including basic Excel and the ability to learn bespoke systems.

Research and problem solving skills, practical experience of manual handling techniques.

Must hold a full driving licence and will be required to pass a basic police driving test. The position does involve a significant amount of driving, so you must be confident, positive and self motivated within this often lone working environment.
