Full Job Description

· Investigate any incidents related to structures examination activities and provide technical support and advice accordingly, as and when required. · Ensure that the technical issues identified by the engineering team via report rejections and briefings are addressed and understood. · Ensure technically compliant reports are produced in a consistent manner with minimal rejections. · Ensure examiner competence is managed effectively, including briefing, training and assessment. · Ensure that all work is undertaken to satisfy the requirements of the Contract KPI’s. · Establish and maintain collaborative relationships within the project in order that all technical requirements are fully understood and implemented. · Participate in the implementation of site audits, inspections and trials as appropriate. · Improve and evolve our systems, tools and processes so that we can drive efficiency and bring benefits to the organisation. The Role will also include: · Compile and submit condition reports and submit for reviewing by the Examining Engineers team · Undertake all on-call duties in support of rapid response, including bridge strike. · Assist in provision of safety critical site support duties as required · Undertake reconnaissance visits · Makes decisions and takes action on site in respect of immediate safety issues, imminent structural failure and operational capabilities of structures following bridge strikes, at times under pressure.

Please note that a trainee examiner position will also be considered depending on candidate suitability. In order to be considered the candidate must have a full UK driving licence. The individual would need to be well organised, self-motivated, be able to work within a team, have basic IT skills and be willing to undertake shift work. In-house training will be provided., · Have strong communication and inter-personal skills at all levels · Able to take responsibility and work with minimum supervision, at times under pressure · Ability to identify and share engineering best practice within the business · Have excellent organisational skills; be able to multitask and re-prioritise to meet changing needs and deadlines · Thorough knowledge of the technical specification and standards for the CEFA contract and structural examination · Proven railway industry experience in structures examination, maintenance or assessment · Computer literate with a full solid understanding of the Microsoft Office suite, particularly MS excel · Work alone with minimum supervision · Full driving license We would also like but it isn’t crucial to have/to be: (Full training of any additional competencies required to be provided) · Bridge Strike Examiner (BSE) with STE 4/SCMI competency. · Holds an ONC/HNC level qualification or Technician Engineer (ICE). · Previous experience in the rail industry with knowledge of railway practices. · Controller of Site Safety/IWA certified. · Proficient in working at heights and has confined space awareness/training. · Holds a Chartered or Incorporated Civil or Structural Engineer status, with a degree or HNC/HND in civil or structures engineering.

Applicants should demonstrate their personal dedication to safety in their application! We adhere to a structured pay framework with the following salary progression:

  • Starting Salary for trainees with no previous experience: £28,392
  • Starting Salary for trainees with some existing competencies: £30,576 - £34,944 (depending on skills and experience)
  • Part 1 Qualified Salary: Subject to manager review, starting at £36,582, PTS, Mandatory Training, and successful completion of Masonry, Concrete & Timber training course.
  • Part 2 Qualified Salary: Subject to manager review, starting at £38,766. This includes Stage 1 criteria plus: STE04 standard Masonry, Concrete & Timber, successful completion of Metallic Training Course, assessed deemed competent STE04 and COSS or IWA.
  • Part 3 Qualified Salary: Subject to manager review, starting at £39,312. This includes all Stage 2 criteria plus BSE competence and on-call working arrangements - assessed and deemed competent.
