As our Expatriate Tax Manager you'll be responsible for managing and advising on all aspects of expatriate and international employment tax and social security issues, ensuring compliance and providing support to the Group. The role encompasses day to day management of expatriate tax matters, including remote workers, short-term business travellers, commuter assignments, social security compliance, permanent transfers, temporary assignments, and various expatriate assignment and payroll arrangements. As the world of work continues to evolve with ever increasing flexibililties of location and duration this role is essential in ensuring Bupa remains compliant. How you'll help us make health happen:

  • Partner with Global Mobility and Payroll and provide expert advice and guidance on expatriate and international employment tax and social security matters, ensuring compliance with UK and international laws and regulations.
  • Provide guidance on trailing bonuses and benefits including implications of cross border aspects of bonus and termination payments.
  • Manage preparation and completion of Appendix 4 submissions to HMRC and advise and support Payroll to ensure accurate and timely reporting under UK expatriate payrolls (Appendix 6, 7A/7B and 8). Prepare international applications e.g. A1, Certificates of Coverage, P85 etc.
  • Provide guidance on the structuring and management of tax and social security aspects of international assignments, including tax equalisation, cost projections, hypothetical tax etc.
  • Advise on short term business visitor compliance and tracking.
  • Provide advice on double tax treaties and mechanisms of tax credits and relief, social security agreements, and oversight on international risks related to cross border mobility e.g., permanent establishments, transfer pricing, VAT costs etc.
  • Advise and guide on compliance requirements, payroll withholding, and reporting in relation to non-resident directors.
  • Partner with stakeholders on any expatriate/cross border movements including assistance with setting up and running payrolls.
  • Contribute to formal responses on HMRC queries and on global mobility issues in relation to international assignments. Directly interact with HMRC contacts where required.
  • Review and improve policies and processes, develop, and implement strategies for international social security optimisation and compliance, tax equalization, and risk management.
  • Work closely with the Tax, Global Mobility, People, Payroll, Reward, and Finance teams to align tax implications with business objectives

    Professional qualification (ACA, CTA, or equivalent) desirable.
  • Proven experience in expatriate tax management, international employment tax, and related compliance within a multinational organization or tax advisory firm.
  • Strong technical knowledge of UK and international tax legislation and guidance.
  • Ability to analyse complex tax issues and develop effective solutions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex tax matters clearly to non-specialists. Comfortable interacting with senior executives and personnel.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to manage relationships with internal and external
  • stakeholders effectively.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Flexible and resilient, and able to respond to the changing needs of the business and tax landscape.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team and contribute to a positive working
  • environment.
