The team…

You will be part of the Communities, Health and Wellbeing team within the Public Health and Wellbeing Directorate at Gateshead Council. Our remit is to work closely with local communities, residents and partners to develop and deliver strategic programmes, projects, strategies and policies that address poverty, disadvantage and inequalities across Gateshead to improve the health and quality of life of our residents.

About the role….

Building upon the learning from the Gateshead Poverty Truth Commission, we want to ensure that our work and then the work of the wider Council is influenced and improved by insights from a diverse range of people affected by poverty, inequality and disadvantage. This role will make sure that every interaction, every real story, every breach of human rights, every event counts in our fight to ensure all our residents have the ability to thrive., Coordination of Experts by Experience work across Public Health and Wellbeing including designing and delivering activities and programmes with colleagues and partners using best practice approaches of co-production, participation and community organising.
Embed the learning and good practice across the Council and provide support to other services to successfully integrate Experts by Experience into their work
Develop processes, procedures and policies to ensure positive experiences for Experts by Experience participating in our work
Increasing the number and diversity of people from black, minoritized and marginalised communities as Experts by Experience, especially on work to address poverty, inequality, racism and disadvantage.
Build skills and confidence amongst Experts by Experience and create a range of opportunities and mechanisms for them to influence, campaign and raise awareness across a range of issues.

An understanding of how poverty, inequality, and disadvantage are affecting people in Gateshead.
Knowledge of effective approaches for engagement, co-design, and co-production with experts by experience
Knowledge of data protection and GDPR
Demonstrable knowledge of Gateshead diverse communities.
Knowledge of safeguarding policies and procedures for vulnerable adults, children and young people.
Experience of working with a diverse range of people who are experts through their experience.
Experience of developing a plan for service activity or experience of service design
Experience of working with a range of internal and external stakeholders
Experience of planning and delivering effective workshops and presentations
Effective communication skills with a range of stakeholder stakeholders
Ability to solve problems creatively.
Ability to present information and arguments in a clear and compelling way.
Ability to listen to, engage and empower individuals.
Ability to work collaboratively with people from other teams.
Ability to deploy flexible time management skills across a range of tasks and responsibilities.

You'll be paid a competitive salary £33,945 to £36,648 per annum
