Full Job Description

We are looking for an External Affairs Manager with strong speechwriting skills to join the team in the Chief Executive’s Office at the Regulator of Social Housing (RSH). This is a new permanent role to support our wider remit., You will manage and carry out activities that support RSH’s extensive programme of stakeholder engagement. This will include writing compelling speeches and speaking notes, collaborating with teams across RSH to develop effective briefing materials for stakeholder meetings and speaking engagements, supporting best practice in stakeholder engagement across RSH so that it delivers our objectives, and ensuring that feedback and insight is shared effectively across RSH at senior and working levels., We carry out anonymous shortlisting as part of our commitment to Equality and Diversity and ensuring a fair and consistent approach to recruitment.

You will have experience of stakeholder management and external affairs, preferably within a central government or social housing context. This should include experience of stakeholder mapping and analysis, building external relationships, planning and delivering activities, and collaborating across teams. You will need to use your insight and evaluation skills to ensure that our stakeholder engagement is effective.
You will need to have excellent writing skills including experience of writing speeches, together with the ability to quickly understand and explain social housing policy and regulation issues. You will need a strong grasp of the social housing stakeholder landscape and an interest in politics., Successful candidates must undergo a criminal record check.

Location
We operate a hybrid model of working with a mix of office and home working.
This role can be based out of any of RSH’s core offices in Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham and Bristol. Our Manchester office will be relocating during 2024/25, however will remain within the city centre. We offer a range of flexible working arrangements and staff can benefit from working from home for part of their hours. Most roles involve some travel within England between our offices, with some roles also involving onsite visits to social housing providers.

The salary for this role is a spot salary within the given range, which will normally be the minimum of the range. There is no incremental progression through a pay scale. Annual salary reviews are determined by the government pay award. In addition, when the probation period is successfully completed, a performance related bonus may be awarded, based on appraisal ratings at the end of the qualifying appraisal year.
