Hours: 40 hours per week
Shift: Monday to Friday between 7:30am-4:00pm
Location: University of Sussex, Hastings Building, Boiler House Hill, Falmer, Brighton, East Sussex, England, BN19RJ

Sussex Estates and Facilities (SEF) are recruiting for a Facilities Porter.

You will provide exceptional, high quality customer services to staff, students and visitors, while also supporting with day-to-day facilities services, primarily portering.

Facilities porter will provide high-quality customer-facing service to students, staff, and visitors, the role involves a range of responsibilities. This includes the delivery of goods, handling store inventories, and conveying messages. Reporting and relaying emergency maintenance requests, as well as assisting maintenance staff, is crucial. The role also entails removing and repositioning furniture and equipment, conducting regular building checks, and reporting maintenance issues and health and safety concerns to the manager. Duties extend to assisting with maintenance and health and safety inspections, carrying out planned preventative maintenance, and creating and dismantling equipment safely as needed.

Additional responsibilities include directing visitors, managing communications via telephone, radio link, and in person, including operating the emergency line. Completing maintenance requests via email to the Service Centre and performing reception duties such as sorting post are also required. Seasonal tasks involve litter picking at building entrances and gritting walkways during winter. Assisting with fire alarm activations and evacuations, providing immediate support to students who may be unwell or distressed, and referring them to the appropriate support team are key aspects of the role. The position also involves supporting university staff with events by setting up tables and chairs, driving company vehicles as needed, and working three Saturdays per year to cover Open Days and Applicant Visit Days. Additionally, the role includes setting up general teaching spaces and conference events.

Full UK driving Licence required.
