Full Job Description

An exciting new role for a Family Integrated Care Junior Sister/Charge Nurse has arisen for an enthusiastic, forward thinking nurse/midwife with experience of working in a clinical NICU setting. The job will play an integral role in supporting the Family Integrated Care Lead in ensuring that a family integrated care ethos is embedded within the service. The post is open to candidates with suitable experience and a commitment to supporting staff and improving care. The role will require an individual with good leadership, communication and interpersonal skills. They must be able to demonstrate an understanding of change management, team dynamics and appreciate the demands of delivering an efficient and effective service which meets the requirements of neonates and their families. You will be part of an MDT working within a level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit within the Southwest Neonatal Network serving the northern part of the network. The unit has 34 cots comprising of 8 intensive care, 8 high dependency and 18 special care cots. To ensure that nursing practice is contemporary, the role will include a Band 6 clinical shift once a week, supporting the NICU roster. A minimum of 34.5 hours over 4 days per week will be considered.,

  • To work closely with the family integrated lead to promote, support and assess a Ficare culture across all aspects of neonatal care.
  • To work closely with the multidisciplinary team
  • Collaborate with nurse education teams to promote and deliver Ficare teaching for both parents and staff to maintain an excellent family experience.
  • Work alongside infant feeding leads, lactation consultants to support the unit in achieving and maintaining UNICEF Baby Friendly Accreditation and promote breast feeding initiatives across the perinatal service.
  • To support the lead in the development of family focused care and measure achievements and outcome improvements by undertaking regular auditing of the nursing care quality indicators and parents experience.
  • Proactively participate in relevant groups and meetings to promote a Ficare approach in all forums, such as handovers, safety huddles and staff meetings
  • Engage and work alongside the MDT with appropriate Neonatal awareness campaigns e.g, Kangaroo Care, World prematurity day.
  • Be an advocate for embedding the ethos of 'parents as partners in care' - empowering staff to educate and support parents to be fully involved in provision of care and decision-making.
  • Alongside the lead and MDT develop clear guidelines, signposting documents and referral pathways to ensure staff awareness of resources, profession and charitable services available to families.
