The role of a family practitioner is dynamic, diverse, and demanding. You will provide essential support to children and young people in our care, along with their families, who are facing complex challenges. You will play a vital role in building and nurturing strong relationships with families and other professionals, aiming to offer encouragement, assistance, and support when facilitating meaningful transformations within families.,

    Being a successful family practitioner requires effective teamwork, as well as the self-motivation and independence to deliver tailored support. In collaboration with social workers, you will assess the type and duration of support that would be most beneficial for each family, taking the lead in implementing these interventions., Advocating for the children and young people of Devon, you will have a positive and professional approach to your role, working in line with statutory obligations. You will champion restorative practice and encourage a collaborative culture, where opportunities for reflection and learning are supported.
  • You will demonstrate excellent communication skills and the ability to adapt your approach when meeting the unique needs of different families. Flexibility and the desire to learn is crucial when engaging with children and young people, particularly those that require specialised methods/aproaches. Previous experience of working with families who have complex needs would be advantageous. In addition, basic IT skills are required for maintaining accurate records. Our service is dedicated to providing timely support to children, young people, and their families, particularly during critical moments so the ability to manage unexpected changes and crisis situations in conjunction with social workers is essential.
