Full Job Description

We are seeking to recruit a Family Support Practitioner to join our Safeguarding and Pastoral Team to provide support to students and their families experiencing short or long-term difficulties.

The successful applicant will help identified children to overcome environmental challenges, remove barriers to learning and increase their engagement with school. You will be required to build positive relationships with children and their families. As part of the role you will be responsible for case holding identified children and their families. You will work in partnership with young people and their families in identifying needs, required outcomes, developing care and support plans, which are then monitored and reviewed. You will be directed by the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead to process and prioritise cases for children and families, from referrals made by the Safeguarding and Pastoral Teams. As part of the role you will work effectively and collaboratively in partnership with external agencies and organisations, such as Early Help, Children's Services, Police and Health.

We are seeking to recruit applicants who have an understanding and working knowledge of Safeguarding processes, the Gloucestershire Graduated Pathway and Community Support Services. You will work within the daily routines of a mainstream secondary school with some flexibility to meet the needs of working parents and supporting families with the school routine. The role will include working between the main school site, family homes and through attendance at meetings. The successful applicant will have experience of working with young people from different ages, genders, cultures, as well as disabilities and sexual orientation, preferably within a secondary school or other educational setting.

Severn Vale School is an Academy which provides an inclusive secondary education for students aged 11-16, that delivers strong student outcomes through high quality teaching and outstanding pastoral care. The school is proud of its inclusive credentials and, in an area that has retained selection, subscribe instinctively to the comprehensive ideal.

Whilst the role is intended to be 37 hours per week, over 42 weeks per year (term time + inset + 3 weeks during school holidays) we are keen to stress that it is about finding the right candidate and therefore flexibility on days and hours worked will be considered. Applicants are encouraged to state clearly their current working hours and days in their application.

You will be well supported in this role by the Assistant Headteacher responsible for Safeguarding and operationally line managed by the school's Deputy Safeguarding Lead. In addition, we offer a comprehensive staff well-being package which includes:

  • Employee Assistance Programme

  • Local Government Pension Scheme
