Full Job Description

As a Family and Student Key Worker with Kings Heath Secondary School, you will be enabling families to achieve and maintain outcomes that best supports them. No two days will be the same, as you will be working within different families from different communities .You will meet with families to provide a package of support interventions to meet their targeted needs. You will be proactively engaging and supporting pupils and their families to strengthen and improve their outcomes, develop their resilience, reduce school absence and improve engagement. You will work directly with pupils and their parents to uncover underlying issues.

Do you have the skills to communicate with pupils and their families in our multi ethnic 11-16 school?, You will need to be an energetic communicator with excellent engagement and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with young people, parent/carers and professionals. You will be committed to enhancing the lives of children, young people and their families. You will also need to be emotionally resilient and be able to maintain a professional relationship with those that we support. We are looking for an experienced individual who possesses effective communication skills. The role will involve the following:

  • ability to engage with parents/care giver on a one to one basis
  • an awareness of Safeguarding and Child protection Issues
  • able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • an understanding and knowledge of child attachment
  • previous demonstrable experience of working directly with children and parents on both a one-to-one and group basis
  • the role requires travel; therefore driving is an essential part of the role. It is essential that candidates have use of their own vehicle, which has suitable business insurance and a full driving licence
  • The ability to speak a community language would be an advantage but is not essential:
  • Urdu
  • Punjabi
  • Arabic
  • Romanian
  • Cantonese
  • Mandarin
  • A willingness to learn and an enthusiasm for working with young people are essential as well as an approachable and professional manner. A sense of humour is essential, as is the ability to work efficiently in a busy environment with many interruptions. The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. This post is covered by Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) and therefore the ability to speak fluent and spoken English is an essential requirement for this role.
