Full Job Description

The Farm Manager will oversee the day-to-day operations of the farm, ensuring the efficient management of all resources, including land, crops, equipment, and personnel. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership skills to maximize productivity, maintain assets, and build relationships within the local community., Operational Management: Plan and coordinate farming activities such as drilling, spraying, harvesting, and crop rotation. Also incorporating the cattle work, working closely with the stockman. Develop and implement crop management strategies to optimize yield and quality. Ensure compliance with agricultural standards and government regulations. Asset Management: Oversee the maintenance and proper use of all farm assets including buildings, vehicles, and machinery. Conduct regular inspections to ensure all equipment and infrastructure are in optimal working condition. Harvesting Operations: Coordinate and supervise all harvesting activities to ensure timely and efficient crop collection. Manage labour force during peak harvesting periods to maximize productivity. Oversee post-harvest handling and storage to maintain crop quality. Equipment and Machinery: Oversee the operation and maintenance of farm equipment and machinery. Highlight safety protocols related to farm machinery. Schedule regular maintenance and repairs to minimize downtime and extend equipment life. Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with local suppliers, buyers and contractors. Negotiate contracts when needed and agreements to secure favourable terms for the farm. Personnel Management: Be part of day to day staff productivity and keeping morale at a good level. Ensure a safe working environment by enforcing health and safety regulations and practices. Financial Management: Develop and manage budgets, ensuring cost-effective use of resources. Monitor financial performance and prepare reports for the owners. Identify opportunities for cost savings and revenue enhancement.

  • Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Farm Management, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a farm manager role.
  • Strong knowledge of agricultural practices, crop management, and modern farming techniques.
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining farm machinery and equipment.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage budgets and financial plans.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make decisions under pressure.
  • Familiarity with agricultural software and technology.
  • Full Driving licence
  • Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Capability to perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Willingness to work extended hours during peak seasons.

    We are a family farm in the Lincolnshire Wolds, being here since 1958 the farm is at the heart of all that we do.
  • Charles has been at the helm for over 40 years and his daughter Amy on farm for the last 20 years. As Charles looks to retire early next year there is an opening for a Farm Manager to support the day to day running of the farm and enabling there to be time for the farm to take advantage of situations and opportunities that arise. G&B Dobson is a mixed arable farm in the Lincolnshire Wolds. The combinable crops growninclude oil seed rape, barley, wheat, beans and oats. We also have a herd of suckler cowscomprising Continental and Lincoln Reds. There is a green waste composting site which is incorporated into the farm.
