Full Job Description

The role of the Fetal Medicine Midwife is to co-ordinate the continuity of care and support of women (their partners and families) during screening for/diagnosis of fetal anomaly and/or high-risk pregnancy.

The aim of the role is to enhance the quality and safety of care for our women, families and babies ensuring a woman/birthing person/baby centred approach to delivery of care. Work collaboratively with the lead consultants for fetal medicine and others within the multidisciplinary team to ensure women are allocated to the appropriate care pathway based on local and national guidelines. A key role for the post holder will be to support the development of the fetal medicine service and deliver training/support to the multidisciplinary team

· Develop good working relationships with members of the multidisciplinary team and other health care professionals.

· Lead and develop services and clinical pathways working with Consultants and other MDT members to ensure continuity and consistency of care

· Liaise with local and regional fetal medicine consultants and other specialist services including genetics, cardiology, oral-facial, paediatricians and blood transfusion services

· Provide first line and ongoing counselling for women/birthing people and their families diagnosis of fetal anomaly.

· Advise midwives on the screening options for multiple pregnancies and first trimester nuchal translucency screening and 2ndtrimester screening and NIPT

· Provide pre and post-screening counselling. To counsel women/birthing people following diagnosis of an abnormality and managing their care appropriately

· To provide information and advice to parents related to health education to improve health outcomes

· Provide education to women/birthing people, relatives and significant others e.g. writing and editing patient information literature
