Full Job Description

This is an ideal permanent post for an ambitious microscopist and image analysis specialist dedicated to the user support and training. You will improve your knowledge in lab management working with advanced imaging systems, e.g. tauSTED microscope (including FLIM) and different confocal microscopes. In addition, your will enhance your expertise in ImageJ, python or java programming as there is a great demand for ImageJ macros and plugins.   • You are expected to provide up-to-date technical expertise for the setup, optimisation and routine use of state-of-the-art light microscopes including the following modalities: confocal microscopy, STED super-resolution microscopy, FALCON fast fluorescent life-time imaging, Fluorescence correlation spectroscopy and Lightning high-resolution imaging; in the future, two-photon and clearing light-sheet microscopy.

  • You will give users advice, training and support to a very high standard in all aspects of light microscopy, from sample preparation to labelling strategies and image acquisition.

  • You will support users in data processing, interpretation, visualisation, and quantification developing new and the supporting of already developed ImageJ scripts; on demand, developing new python and java image processing scripts and AI models working with python and/or java and/or commercial software.

  • The facility is concentrated on the development of the new education and training technologies. You will be contributing to video and web education., This is a fulltime, fixed term role based at Hammersmith Campus (East Acton).   • Proven experience in light microscopy, e.g. widefield and confocal microscopy

  • Proven experience in image analysis and/or AI usage and data processing

  • Good knowledge in the image formation theories including geometric optics, light wave theory and point spread function engineering

  • Proven teamwork skills

  • Excellent computer skills

  • Excellent organisational skills

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Previous experience in working in an internationally competitive research environment
