Full Job Description

BBC Studios is seeking a Finance Business Analyst to join the Group Finance team. The Finance Business Analyst will directly support and work closely with the Group Financial Accounting Manager. Initially the role will be primarily responsible for preparation of commercial subsidiary statutory financial reporting and other external reporting requirements across the business. Over time there will be opportunity to rotate into other areas of specialism in the team. The role will also include responding to technical accounting queries as well as reviewing month-end results and reconciliations. The Group Finance team are responsible for internal and external financial reporting, planning and analysis across BBC Studios, including oversight of the associated control environment. This includes statutory financial reporting and other external reporting, ensuring the Group complies with generally accepted accounting standards and relevant internal control legislation. The role will play a pivotal part in supporting BBC Studios Finance Teams to achieve strong technical accounting accuracy, ensuring the business meets reporting deadlines and delivers full compliance with financial reporting and controllership requirements. It will require keeping abreast of changes in accounting standards and control legislation to assist the wider BBC Studios finance community on both ongoing and complex accounting issues that may arise.,

  • Primary point of contact for the preparation of commercial subsidiary statutory financial statements across the BBC Studios Group of entities.
  • Support and coordinate submission of BBC Studios Group year-end figures to the BBC Group Finance team
  • Responsible for technical accounting queries across the business, determining the accounting impact of commercial decisions across monthly, budget and forecast reporting. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:
  • o Revenue recognition;
  • o Capital and expense recognition, including leases and fixed assets;
  • o Intercompany and taxation;
  • o Investment and acquisition, including equity accounting;
  • o Financial instruments and foreign exchange; and
  • o Consolidation and elimination.
  • Review and analysis of Group month-end, quarterly and year-end transactions and balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring the Group is operating within a robust control environment.
  • Support weekly calculations on the Group's underlying currency exposure, including raising trade requests, reviewing hedging effectiveness and preparing movement analysis of the Group's currency and foreign exchange position.
  • Present training to the wider finance community on accounting and controllership matters as standards and legislation evolves.
  • Liaise with external auditors to discuss and resolve queries as they arise and ensure a smooth audit process.
  • Stay abreast of changes to accounting standards, controls legislation and support in both maintaining and updating accounting policies across the Group.

    Professional accountancy qualification - ACA or ACCA (or equivalent).
  • Proficiency preparing or working with/reviewing annual reports and financial statements from source data, including understanding of the associated disclosure requirements.
  • Awareness of current and prospective technical accounting and reporting requirements under both IFRS and UK GAAP, including the ability to apply these requirements in a pragmatic and commercial manner.
  • Deep understanding of consolidation principles in an international group, including an awareness of the impact of foreign exchange on trading performance.
  • Experience working with multiple entities or business units and performing analysis and review of results.
  • Proactive and self-motivated with the genuine drive and commitment to improve the effectiveness of reporting processes.
  • Confident and flexible team player with the ability to communicate clearly at all levels.
  • Excellent spreadsheet and IT skills (prior experience of using SAP (S4 HANA), BPC and/or Workiva would be an advantage, but not essential).
  • Strong interest in media, broadcast, production or television industry, with any experience considered a plus.
