Full Job Description

We are seeking a talented FP&A Business Partner with strong reporting skills and a sound knowledge of General Insurance P&Ls. Lloyd's Market financials is an advantage but not essential. You'll be working closely with Group Finance and Syndicate Finance teams to ensure the London Market business unit's performance is correctly reported, analysed and understood.

This role sits in the London Market Financial Planning & Analysis ("LM FP&A") team, which is part of the broader HSL / London Market Finance team.

This role is focused upon FP&A Reporting with an element of Business Partnering. You'll have responsibility for the majority of LM FP&A reporting processes, including Budget, Forecast and Actuals, from process design to execution of the ultimate deliverable.

Upon joining, the successful candidate will be asked to develop strategic enhancements to these processes, for example development of the current forecasting approach, with a view to improving the overall quality of support LM FP&A provides to LM business leaders.

On the partnering side, the successful candidate will be assigned some partnering responsibilities with the divisions within London Market (Property, Crisis Management, Casualty and Marine, Energy & Specialty). These responsibilities will support the core partnering activities carried out by dedicated business partners to those divisions, who will sit in the same team.

Partnering responsibilities will be focused upon helping underwriting teams understand how their commercial performance translates into the financials of their line of business.

What you'll be doing in the role

  • Design and manage Actual, Forecast and Budget processes with full ownership of the quality, accuracy and accompanying insight in the ultimate deliverables to senior management

  • Drive a thorough understanding of the numbers and relate this back to the commercial performance of the business in a way that underwriting teams and other business stakeholders will understand

  • Build relationships with the underwriting teams to become a trusted and valued partner

  • Maintain a strong foundation for partnering through robust management of processes, early & simple communication and timely engagement

  • Manage and own delivery of reporting of Business Unit performance on a GAAP and Underwriting Year basis into Syndicate Finance team

  • Prepare presentations to the London Market Leadership Team (LMLT) and Group stakeholders with a focus upon accuracy and clarity of messaging

An experienced financial professional with an accountancy qualification but more importantly a high degree of numeracy and a sound knowledge of General Insurance P&Ls

  • Understanding of Lloyd's Market financials is an advantage but not essential

  • Curious, open minded, happy to question & challenge, and comfortable highlighting areas not understood

  • An enquiring mind to fully understand what is driving performance

  • Happy to drive collective learning for themselves and colleagues

  • Strong analytical skills and ability to present in a cogent manner what is driving performance

  • Credibility to earn and retain the trust of stakeholders

  • Ability to communicate both written and orally in a clear and concise way - communicating with a targeted focus upon effectiveness

  • An open and collaborative style with the ability to translate complex subject matter expertise to key stakeholders with clarity

    About Hiscox London Market

  • As an international specialist insurer we are far removed from the world of mass market insurance products. Instead we are selective and focus on our key areas of expertise and strength - all of which is underpinned by a culture that encourages us to challenge convention and always look for a better way of doing things.

We insure the unique and the interesting. And we search for the same when it comes to talented people. Hiscox is full of smart, reliable human beings that look out for customers and each other. We believe in doing the right thing, making good and rebuilding when things go wrong. Everyone is encouraged to think creatively, challenge the status quo and look for solutions.

Scratch beneath the surface and you will find a business that is solid, but slightly contrary. We like to do things differently and constantly seek to evolve. We might have been around for a long time (our roots go back to 1901), but we are young in many ways, ambitious and going places.

Some people might say insurance is dull, but life at Hiscox is anything but. If that sounds good to you, get in touch.

    Diversity and Hybrid working

At Hiscox we care about our people. We hire the best people for the job and we're committed to diversity and creating a truly inclusive culture, which we believe drives success.

We have also learned over the past few years that working life doesn't always have to be in the office, and now it is safe to do so we have introduced hybrid working to encourage a healthy work life balance.

This hybrid working model is set by the team rather than the business to enable you to manage your own personal work-life balance. We see it as the best of both worlds; structure and sociability on one hand, and independence and flexibility on the other.
