Due to an internal promotion, an exciting opportunity has arisen to join a high performing Finance and Internal Audit team as well as studying towards achieving a well-respected professional accountancy qualification. We're looking for an enthusiastic individual motivated to start a career in local government finance., The successful candidate will need to have either a degree or AAT Level 3 qualification, excellent communication and ICT skills and be enthusiastic about starting or progressing their career in local government finance.

  • What the role will involve? As evidenced by the recent CIPFA financial management review, we are a highly performing finance team that provides excellent support to managers across the organisation and a highly regarded Internal Audit service supporting not only the Council but a range of other organisations across the North East. Our work is varied and fast paced, and you'll be part of a busy but friendly team dedicated to achieving the best value for money for the Council. Our highly successful trainee programme has been established for many years and sees trainees rotate across three departments: Financial Accounting, Financial Management and Internal Audit, helping you to gain a well-rounded experience. The work is interesting, varied, and offers the chance to make a real difference. You will be supported in studying the Chartered Institute for Public Finance & Accountancy (CIPFA) professional qualification, which means at the end of the programme you will be a qualified chartered CIPFA accountant.
